I tested out of this requirement by taking an ACT test. I scored 32 on the English requirement, enough to get me out of the English class. My college accepted this and put it on their transcript, and from the preliminary review at Excelsior they accepted it as well. Downside: ACT might only be once a year and you will have to sit in between highschool students (SERIOUS DOWNSIDE). Upside: low cost, might even get you out of the basic Math class if you score high enough (unfortunately I missed it by 1 point, mainly due to time).

I must admit, I never actually intended to take either of the two ACT or SAT exams. Its funny you should bring that up, because a few days ago I was wondering how NOT taking them would affect me.

I'm not sure how to study for them

This is an option I will explore. ( I am still leaning towards LSU for the credits, however)

I submitted for enrollment in LSU's Independent Study Program.

I must say the fee is isn't too bad, and I like the work pace.

I looked over some of LSU's other stuff, and some of those actually look tempting too!

I'll consider those options, later.

As mentioned, I took the basic Eng Comp class from them to meet my Eng requirement. I had also enrolled in an algebra class with them around a year ago too, but just couldn't get past the first lesson without feeling sick.

I never submitted anything and so LSU allowed me to withdraw from the algebra class and transfer my fee to another class.

I didn't want to take something that would be too complex or anything that I could earn via a clep/dsst exam so I opted for Music Appreciation. I'm a drummer, so this class was fun, interesting and fast - I completed it in 6 weeks.

I was re-evaluating the BS General Business, and seeing as I have quite a ways to get there, I decided to be a little less ambitious, and instead begin with a closer goal of getting Excelsior's AS in Business.

There isn't anything extra, and everything earned in it, goes towards the completion of the BS. So I see it as a more "visable" reward, marking the half-way point.

Still, one thing about the Excelsior AB chart bothers me.

In the Downloadable ebook that defines the requirements of all its business degrees, there is a chart that details the means of attaining the AS.

The Business Component, as its called lists 6 items, satasified by 5 exams:

1. Financial Accounting (Principles of Accounting CLEP)
2. Managerial Accounting (Principles of Accounting CLEP)
3. Introduction to Business Law (Introductory Business Law CLEP)
4. Computers (Information systems & Computer Applications CLEP)
5. Principles of Management (Principles of Management CLEP)
6. Principles of Marketing (Principles of Marketing CLEP)

These 6 requirements, to be sated by 5 exams are to be, 21 credits.

21 credits?

I know my math is not that good, but I believe that these add up to 18!

I looked all over the Sheet, thinking that those lost 3 credits, where maybe misplaced...but to no avail.

This 60 credit program is flawed because it is only 57 credits!

Is getting an AS Business Impossible?

The Business Component of your AS degree MUST include at least 21 credits. Within those 21 credits, you MUST fulfill the specified Business Core Requirements (18 credits). The remaining 3 credits required to complete the 21 credits of the Business Component are therefore electives.

I submitted my application for enrollment, on 4 Aug 06, and I haven't recieved any word from LSU, other than that recieved my request.

They haven't charged me for it yet.

I just recieved the Text books in the mail, and I am eager to start.

I descovered that LSU also offers, ISDS 3115, Introduction to Operations Management. This looks exactly like a requirement on Excelsior BS General Business. http://www.is.lsu.edu/coursefactsheet.as...rseNr=3115

Enrollment is $229.00, and the cost of the Text book.

To me, that beats paying $365.00 for the TECEP, and $189.00 from istudysmart.com for study materials.

There is a downside...Its not online, its throught mail only, so it may take longer to complete.

I just throwing this information in the pool, do your own Cost-benefit-analysis to see what you value more: time or money
