Everyone has some geat advice, as always!
I agree with Storyteller...practice writing those essays!!!
If you do your best, that is all you can do... (My Daddy always says, "Do your best and forget the rest!) I took this CLEP, as my first one (I was 15), and passed. Believe me, I was so nervous! Don't put too much pressure on yourself and try to relax (easier said than done)! Even if you do fail, you will know what to expect from the CLEP tests, next time! It isn't a total waste. During the test, don't panic...there will always be something you don't know, so don't let it get to you. Deep breaths and praying, always help me!!!
As everyone said, it is better than sitting in a class and paying tuition!
You can do it!!! Praying for you...
Many blessings!

Seriously, I've failed $900 courses before...so 100 is nothing! Failing should not be an option though, especially if you are like me and studied more than you've ever studied for an actual course.

And CLEP English Comp with Essay is good for 6 semester hours at most schools. That's two standard courses, English Comp I and II.
Seattle, you're taking a path that takes a LOT of self-reliance, self-discipline, and resourcefulness. You're moving ahead on it already, and you're going to keep doing so. Your family should be all sorts of proud of you. *confidently:* I'm pretty sure they are.

That moment at the very end, right before you click to see your score, I was freaking out like crazy because I didn't think I passed (anybody else have this problem?). Thankfully I did pass it. For every test I've taken (only four lol!) I've never felt truly prepared beforehand. How I managed to pass them is still beyond me. All I can do is keep studying and praying.
I'm just... a wee bit older than you, but I can recall the same feeling on about 4-5 exams I took. I wasn't sure I passed them and hesitated to save the score at the end of the exam but then figured "what the heck?" I'd already paid the proctor fee. So far I've passed every one I've taken. Now where's some wood to knock on...

No kidding. I failed a few courses at regular B&M schools, mostly because I couldn't keep up with the courses due to work and didn't withdraw before the deadline.

You have to fail this exam 6 times before it starts to cost what you'll pay for English 101/102 at your local community college. SIX times!
CLEP English exam $80 x 6 = $480
CLEP testing fee for you $32 x 6 = $192
6 attempts will cost you = $672
What does your community college charge for 1 credit? This exam is worth 6 credits....
Keep studying, and good luck!

Like other overstudy responders, I did not just study until I scored the bare minimum pass on practice tests. I do not test well, in that I get extremely anxious prior to, and for the first few minutes of a test. I stressed and panicked before going to my appointment, and studied until I put my rump in the seat (for the last two, I even studied while driving to the proctor center). The money I spent was money not going into my son's college savings account; while I told myself it was so I could secure our family's future, I also promised myself I would not fail any courses and a CLEP or DSST or ECE was a course (cheaper, sure, but still a course). By studying a while longer than often recommended, I passed every CLEP/DSST/ECE exam with a very comfortable margin. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do fine.

There are posts from many forum members who went from no credits to graduation in five minutes. (Trust me, that's only a slight exaggeration.) While it's impressive, that may not be the path you need to take. The advice from the posters who have said study, study, study, and take (multiple, if necessary) practice tests is right on target. You never know when a test, say CLEP's Principles of Marketing, may be easy for almost every other poster but you. Since you can only retake a test three or six months after earning a failing score, prepare yourself. Now, as....Cookderosa, I think, has said in the past, don't get to the point of inaction 'cause you're over-analyzing things. Or, in your case, preparing so much that you never take an exam. Also, regardless of how well you do on this test, my opinion is that it is sufficiently different from other CLEPs so that you shouldn't let a high score (or a low one!) overly influence you from the process of testing. Good luck.

If you do fail, don't dwell on it. Instead, immediately start your new plan for passing. Write down every detail you can remember about the test. As long as you never share or publish the test question details, it's okay for you to use your notes to plan your personal studies.
At a certain point, you need to take the plunge. Failure is bad because it delays progress. Overstudying can also delay progress.
