How long are DSST scores kept?

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone knows how long Prometric will hold your DSST scores for? The CLEP tests are held for 20 years (except for the essays), but I can't seem to find where it says how long the DSST scores are kept. I am taking all of my tests first, then transferring them, so I want to make sure before I take any DSSTs.

Here's a suggestion on what you might want to ask them. If they keep them for 20 years, is it per test or per student? For example, if you took a test 19 years, 11 months, and 27 days ago, what if you pass a test that day? Does your oldest test go away? Or does your new test cause your account to renew and thus extend the life of the oldest test for another 20 years?

A good idea to consider is, once you're done, sending CLEP and DSST score reports to ACE CREDIT. I don't believe they ever delete transcripts. (I don't think that the ACE CREDIT transcript retains CLEP or DSST scores, but they'd retain the credit recommendations for having earned the recommended passing scores set by ACE.)

Hmm, Jonathan. You raise an interesting point. If they were transferred to ACE, and 21 years from now I wanted to apply to a school, would it matter that they were coming from ACE and not CLEP? Would a university accept it and give credit since ACE wasn't the originating source?

Hi,
I called Prometric, and they said that because the DSST scores are stored in the computer base, they are kept indefinitely. So it sounds like there isn't a limit on how long you can store them.
