I'm in a pretty simple Python class, and I wasn't able to finish one of the warm-up tests because I couldn't remember the syntax of a command. I've programmed in a lot of languages, and I was remembering how to slice strings from a different language. The fact that I couldn't uses any of my notes, look at sample code, check a text book, or search on the internet, really irritated to me. I'm not sure why this bothered me so much, since my government and math classes were closed-book. Maybe because I've worked a long time as a programmer and I've never had to write a program without access to any notes. Is this common at WGU? I'm in the Software Development track, so there will be a lot of programming classes in my future. One of the people at WGU thought future programming classes would be project based, but they were not certain. FWIW, Microsoft is switching all their cert exams to be "open book" to make them more realistic.

You're referring to the zybooks OA, which has improved significantly over time. However, it still requires specific preparation and practice. My understanding is that the preassessment now aligns well with the OA, so you should mostly practice that to prepare.

It seems WGU is working on moving at least some courses to zybooks. There's been a lot of chatter in the discord about the database OA in zybooks being very challenging.

The are multiple courses with coding projects as practical assessments (PAs), not as OAs, so you should be able to get through those quickly and with much less frustration.

I took the Final, and felt like I got a 100%. I passed with the minimum score. All the questions on the Final, I had done several times before in the practice exams. No idea what questions I missed, or how. Anyway, I think I am done taking OA's, and will find another way.
