I would very much recommend that you do your best to meet actual architects and/or work in an architectural firm if possible. You may find that idea of designing houses or exceptional buildings varies greatly from work in an architectural firm. Working your way up in an large firm that has the resources to build large projects can leave you feeling abused and low paid. Also while you are working on your degree get as much experience with AutoCad and other BIM software as possible. The software is expensive so you may find a community college is the best way to get started. Proficiency may get you hired or earn you a spot in an internship.
Also something else for you to consider as either a stepping stone for your first degree or as a plan "B" is a degree in construction management. It can give you real world experience(and career) as you work on your architectural degree/license.
Best of Luck
