Everyone pursuing a degree from Excelsior needs to satisfy the info lit requirement. Several have found alternatives to the expensive Excelsior course. Could we collect them in one thread for our own benefit as well as for those who come after us?
LSU has a course called 'LIBRARY RESEARCH METHODS AND MATERIALS', that was approved by Excelsior as satisfying that requirement. I haven't taken it yet, but the cost is around $70.
Anyone else?

Click on Library and Information Science. Hope this helps someone. Has anyone else found a way to satisfy this requirement that is inexpensive and fast?

Thank you all.
I merged your question into this one that addresses the IL requirement. The EC-IL course is incredibly simplistic and can be completed in several hours yet it is extremely expensive.
Use the SEARCH feature for other threads too - Good Luck!!

Here's a slightly modified post of mine from a few months ago:
I asked the folks at Excelsior College if a counseling course at the
College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA would satisfy their Information Literacy requirement. Their reply was:
"I reviewed the courses from College of the Canyons and added them to the Course approval screen. As you will see COUNS 070 does not meet Information Literacy, it would be a developmental course and would not be acceptable for credit. LMTECH 100 Introduction to Research will meet the requirement."
Aha! I didn't expect them to delve into the schedule for me, but am very grateful. LMTECH 100 is a one unit online course (two on-site visits required--first day and last of one month course)which would cost $20 for CA residents. I haven't done it yet but I'm passing along the info so people can use it. If the CA course isn't your best option, you may try looking at the description of the Introduction to Research course at the College of the Canyons website and then attempt to match it to a community college in your area.

I took the Excelsior IL, it was a joke, I read the first module and saw how ridiculous it was and immediately took the final exam and still only missed like 4 questions. My employer paid for it, so it really didn't matter to me either way.
If you can find it somewhere cheaper, by all means go for it!

A word of caution about LSU. If you are taking a paper based course that requires lessons to be mailed, graded, then mailed back, they take at least a month for turn-around. I just completed a writing course through them, and would not recommend them to anyone. I have had nothing but headaches. I don't know anything about their online courses.
