New poll shows that majority of Americans now think college isn't worth the cost

I really don’t see how a degree from a lesser known school is worse than not having a degree at all.

I had an IT job that pays over $75k a year.
I tried to get another IT job after getting a BS in IT degree but it turns out the degree on my resume makes me look more stupid and less sophisticated. Now, no one wants to hire me for any IT role.

If you get a degree from less known university, you'll get a worse reputation.

I know several people who work in tech and a bachelor's degree is a checkbox for almost every one of them because they have years of experience. My husband completed his bachelor's in analytics last year and has since received 2 raises and been moved into a different division of the company where he is using his newly learned skills in addition to his 3 decades of experience and knowledge. Most of his knowledge isn't from textbooks or YouTube, it comes from years of experience in the field. They don't teach what he and his co-workers know in college. It's all learned on the job. Healthcare IT isn't the same as financial IT. There's a huge demand for healthcare IT, but unfortunately most employers want experience which you can only get by doing the job. Networking is how most of these guys ended up at the company. You need to network when you work in tech.

It's not. Degrees are often just a checkbox on an application. Few people make it to the Harvards and Yales in this world. Almost everyone goes to a lesser known school.
