MBA Degree Plan ?!
#1
Hello Degree Forum :-)

I'm writing today because I'm 23 years old and do not have a college education. It was Mother's day 2 days ago and I want to make my Mom proud. I need to follow through on everything I've assured her in regards to my future.

I realize this is something I must do for myself, but I feel compelled to get a degree because of her.

I took Clep Spanish last week and passed with a 76. Lucky for me that I'm fluent in Spanish because that's 12 credits in the bag! Almost makes me want to learn French and German LOL.

I have a grand total of 15 credits then when you factor in the Spanish CLEP and an AP European History class that I took while in High School.

I work full time and would welcome the challenge of getting my degree as soon as Humanly possible.

I don't have children or other commitments so I am willing to leave work for a bit to focus 100% on my schooling.

The degree in question is a MBA with a concentration in Accounting. Career wise I want to become a C.P.A. I know the road is long and the odds are stacked against me but I have a lot of faith and I am an excellent tester.

I need your input on what schools would best suit me for this career track, and what a degree plan for this would look like.

Specifically in regards to my short term AS goal to get me into a Bachelor's program.
Ideally I would like to test out of both degrees using a variety of CLEP, DSST, FEMA etc.

I welcome any and all comments and I appreciate your Forum, hopefully I can make a similar contribution in the future when I gain more experience.

P.S. I'm under the present impression that an MBA with a minor in accounting is the most effective option. Many schools offer MBA programs and take into account experience you have in the field. An MBA would also fill the 150 credit requirement to sit for the CPA test in Florida. But that's just my impression and don't have qualms about considering a Master's in Accounting.

You should take a close look at TESC, they have an accounting program and offer a BSBA that can be completed COMPLETELY by exam. There are several iterations of degree plans for this path floating around.

Essentially you need to find a test, CLEP/DSST/TECEP/EC, or alternate mathod to fill these courses: BSBA in General Management Degree Program

TESC list how they categorize CLEP and DSST here:
CLEP - College-Level Exam Program
DANTES

Figure out what you need to take and find the resource you need to study for those, the flashcards here and the "specific exam feedback" pay sections are very useful and you can also cross check with freeclepprep.com as an alternate/supplemental resource.

Good Luck,
Reb

Note an accounting degree would look a bit different and be more difficult to test out of.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Welcome to the forum!
so rebel gave you a great lead in, and I am only adding some encouragement if I can.

I don't see the odds stacked against you at all! Your young, have no apparent commitments to stop you, and the fact that you are here asking questions, shows you have initiative.
Only advise I can give, is do what your passionate about and wiling to do for a daily job. Not what you promised or someone else wants for you. Case in point, I am in IT, and I hate it. Love aviation, electronics, science, etc... but my electronics led me to IT, and every year I swear I am going to find a new job in some other industry, but alas the paycheck holds me captive. So just be sure accounting is what you want to do.

And yes the Florida CPA portion will be tough, and yes it requires 150 semester hours. Just pay attention to the accounting hours, and general business hours.
36 upper level credits in Taxation, Auditing, Financial, Cost/Managerial and Accounting Info Systems. 39 upper level in business courses. Many of these will come in your MBA program, but make sure you map as many upper level courses in Bachelor degree as possible to avoid any contention. But note it says, you can sit for the exam at the 120 hour mark, which is where you bachelor degree ends and MBA begins. Then just work experience of 1 year.
Details:
CPA - Licensure

Best of luck!
DSST- General Anthropology - 52, Intro to Computer - 469, Technical Writing - 54, DSST Ethics in America - 59 (1996),
CLEP- Sociology -54, College Math - 550(1996), CLEP Principles of Management - 60 (1996)
