Math AS After degree suggestions
#1
Hello,

I am new here, but I have been looking into a few degree programs.

I hold a BSc in Computer Science and am close to finishing my MSc in the same area. I want to get an associate's degree in math online, mainly to get additional math courses to aid in PhD admissions. They don't need to be insane, but a few higher-level courses would be nice.

For example, I applied to the AS in Math at TESU, but I wanted to know if there are other programs with a better value and if the math courseload/cost is a big one. That would be an option if I could also do undergrad math classes for cheaper at my own pace at a low cost.

Degree: Associate in Science
Majors:
  • Mathematics
Departments:
  • Natural Sciences
Catalog:2025
Semester Hours (SH) Required:28.00
SH Applied to Degree:19.00
SH Remaining:9.00
Overall Degree GPA Needed:2.000
Overall Degree GPA Requirement Met:Y
Community College (45 cr for Assoc/90 cr for Bach Maximum):0.00
Foreign Credits (45 cr for Assoc/90 cr for Bach Maximum):15.00
ACE/NCCRS 45 cr for Assoc/90 cr for Bach Maximum):4.00

I know this is the current limiter on my profile; I have strong LoRs, grad GPA, awards, research, and internships. My undergrad GPA is lower, and I did not take many formal math classes but did learn most of the content independently for my computing courses.

Any information would be appreciated.

Welcome to the board, great initial post but you're missing the addendum and template, plus an overall picture of your scenario. It's best to provide a greater overview of your situation by filling in the details requested here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

When you did your undergraduate BS CS program, what was the highest level of math required? Calculus I or II? Wouldn't you already have enough credits for an Associates in Math already? If I was in your shoes, I would go for a Bachelors of Math instead of Associates, again, it depends on what extra info you provide.

I took CALC I and CALC II, linear alg etc was not mandatory but I have covered most the content I just want a formal recognition in the space.

I am open to BS in Math as well but I would like to complete it in a shorter time period time and cost is my main factors, I was looking at the WGU BAES in Math program but there are too many extraneous courses among other issues.

Where in Canada are you from? Your answers are to vague for anyone to guess at and gauge how well you can do, or the budget you have, etc. Absolutely a big no for the Associates degree, even though you only need 15 credits or less, you're paying a residency waiver cost that would be the same if you went for the Bachelors. For the Bachelors, you only need 18 credits that are UL, so you're just doing 1 extra class, but you'll have to add a few lower level credits to make it a total of 24 new credits since your Bachelors was completed.
