Need help with the best option
#1
Hi all

I'm interested in completing a degree in psychology from one of the big three, but I'm not sure which is best.
I have a disability which has made getting this done at a campus far too difficult on top of caring for my 15 month old daughter.
I would like to find the fastest track for the sake of moving forward to graduate school as soon as I can.
From what I now know, these schools all provide psychology degrees. The last I'd tried to look up on this was when FEMA credits were done away with for a particular college. I have a tough time navigating the site, so I use my phone and text to speech to do what I can.
I am curious to know if any schools provide Latin honors, if any of these can at all be completely tested out of, and what advice can be given. I'm an avid reader and have a lot of knowledge about psychology through being an autodidact, however I don't know if this counts as prior learning.

Any and all help is great and I hope to meet everyone I the other side of getting an education before this year is out.

None of the Psych degrees at the Big 3 can be completely tested out of because they all have a Capstone requirement - and COSC has a cornerstone as well. So there's that right off the bat.

TESC looks to be almost completely test-out-able though, besides that (or at least has some inexpensive options for courses if there isn't an exam available). Thomas Edison State University: Psychology

I know COSC gives credit for the GRE Psych exam that the other 2 schools do not do. But I don't know enough about COSC or EC to help with that.

At Excelsior College you will need to complete the following courses History and Systems, Biopsychology, Information Literacy and Capstone, for the psychology degree. If you could find somewhere to complete the credits for History and Systems and Biopsychology then Information Literacy and Capstone would be the only required courses that need to be taken at EC for the psychology degree, other than that the rest of the degree should be testable.

Thank you very much to the both of you!

This is a list of ourses you can take via examination made by Sanantone you can look at here. I hope this list helps you with planning your degree. I am aiming to get this degree down the road myself. I'm not sure what kind of general education classes you have fulfilled but a list of the general education requirements for 2016 and after is listed on TESU's website here.

II. Area of Study: Psychology 39
A. Required Courses 30
Introduction to Psychology- CLEP, Straighterline, UExcel
Research in Experimental Psychology- UExcel
Social Psychology- UExcel
History and Systems of Psychology- TESC
Physiological Psychology- TESC (would personally love to know if there's a cheaper alternative to this class!)
Developmental Psychology- CLEP, DSST
Abnormal Psychology- UExcel
Statistics- DSST, Straighterline, ALEKS, TECEP, and UExcel
Ethics in the Social Sciences- TESC

Psychology Electives (6 credits)
Organizational Behavior- DSST, Straighterline (UL)
Educational Psychology- CLEP
TECEP Women's Psychology
Uexcel ECEP Psychology of Adulthood and Aging (UL)
DSST Substance Abuse (UL)

And of course the required Liberal Arts Capstone, which is 3 credits.

Keep in mind that you need a minimum of 18 credits equivalent to classes at the 300-400 level, and a maximum of 2 at the 100 level to fulfill the requirements for the psychology major.

I re-posted that mainly to give the OP an idea of some of the classes they could take, although I should have stated such in my original post. Thanks for clarifying it here.

In case getting to testing centers is difficult for you, there are also alternatives to these (in red) where you can do proctored exams at home through ProctorU or something similar. They can be more expensive, but may be worth it for some who find it difficult to test at a testing center.
