NYU or LIU?
#11
prettyprincess Wrote:Thanks everyone!
For my undergrad bachelors I paid $500 per credit for a total of $36,000. I applied for financial aid and got $9,000 altogether. For my masters I found out LIU costs $100,000 (I'm not sure about NYU) I plan on taking out loans since my parents aren't paying for it and I don't work...I'm grateful for them paying for undergrad Wink
So should I skip my interview for LIU or just go for it just in case because it's cheaper? On the other hand, like bawhitsett mentioned, NYU is better according to USN?

ps how much in loans did you take for your BA and where did you get your BA from?

for your field.. name doesnt really matter.

for certain fields.. i.e. Law.. name matters until you become established.

i wouldn't skip the interview at all. I would take LIU at 50k over NYU at 100k. The 50k you save is a downpayment on a house! The 50k with interest can turn into 100k when you're done paying!

For my undergrad I didn't take any loans- just the $9,000 from financial aid.
I'm getting my BS from Adelphi University
LIU is 100k...I'm not sure about NYU, but it's for sure more than that...

ok, slightly off topic.

Adelphi allows for 12 credits in cleps.

You graduated from Adelphi at age 19 with only 12 credits in clep?

how so?

what were the source of your credits? i'm going to assume 40 credits in courses and 12 credits in clep which gives you 52 credits. what are the other sources?

My interview is in a week from today and I heard they give me a situation and tell me to write an essay in a half hour about what I would do if I were an Occupational Therapist... I did 50 hours of observation but I don't think that's enough to make me be able to write an essay. Also, I don't have a very good style of writing so I'm nervous...for my personal statement that I wrote, I had a couple of professors and friends look over it to help me fix it but now no one can help...

I had my interview today...went pretty well Wink
I had to write an essay about what I would do if I was a new therapist and the client seems to be under the influence of alcohol. I had 30 min to write it but I was done in 20

I got accepted to LIU!! Now I can choose between LIU who makes me work with cadavers or NYU...not sure if I need to work with cadavers for them. It's 3 years in both places but LIU is cheaper and I can get financial aid if I go to LIU because the 1st year is just working on a 2nd bachelor's...but on the other hand, NYU is a better school so I don't know where to choose.

Pro & Con lists.... It's how I've made every major decision in my life Big Grin In the end it will be personal preference. Have you researched the class lists & what you will take for each degree? Looked up reviews online?

Good luck either way! (:

Personally, I don't know if I could bring myself, or even consider spending $100,000 on a degree. I might be able to get my two degrees for about $10,000. They will have probably the same type of paper as the other colleges. I don't mean to sabotage this thread, but it seems like many people on here have repeatedly questioned the prices schools charge for a degree, compared to the benefits received. At $100,000 or even $50,000, I would want a gold framed diploma at least. Sorry purpleteen, I don't mean to bust your bubble on this.
