I need 4 sh of English composition to finish at TESC. I have 3 qh of English comp from an earlier college course, which is only 2 sh. What I was wondering is; I would rather take the CLEP English modular tha the test with eassy, but that still leaves me 1 hour short. That being said, is there anyway to get 1 or even 2 hours credit somewhere ? Or even better, could that one hour be waived by appeal or some other process ?
Thanks

Take the CLEP exam. That will give meet the entire English requirement. It is cheaper and faster than trying to meet it with 4 credits.

Thanks for the advice, but does anyone think or know if just getting 5 hrs of Eng comp and waiving the final hour can be done?

They won't make exceptions on English comp. It's one of the few areas they don't like to work with people on. I brought in 4 semester hours (enough for any two or four year degree in my state) and they had me take the six credit CLEP exam and then I had duplicated credit. TESC sees this requirement as the foundation to a good degree so you'll have to either take the six credit CLEP, take both TECEP exams (ENC-101 & ENC-102), or take both courses. In any of those cases you'll end up with extra credits due to the transfer into semester hours.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

Having a few unused credits FEELS really awful, especially when we value each and every one so highly, but try to look at the light at the end of the tunnel. Ask yourself if you're creating barriers by holding onto the idea of getting an exact number of credits, or if checking the box is the path of least resistance? I still vote take the CLEP and be done with this. You're giving it too much brain space, space that you'll need later for bigger fish.
