I have been down this road before when it come to "getting started". I never have and now I will! I am an LPN of 16 years and want my RN through EC. I have only Eng Comp 1 & Info Lit from a CC to transfer. That being said, I have never taken a CLEP before and haven't studied in 16 years! What are the easiest gen. ed. tests to study for as a "rusty" learner and what can I study together for maximum overlapping? I have time in the evening (approx 2hr/night) to study. I did begin to study Human Growth & Dev but is this the easiest or should I start with something else?
I see that I am required to take:
Humanities
Humanities core
Life Span Dev Psychology
Sociology core
A&P
Microbiology
Science supportive of nursing
Arts & Science electives
Can anyone fill in the easiest tests to fulfill these general classes? I am starting with basically nothing to build on.
Thanks for any input.
Kathy

For your arts elective, would analyzing and interpreting literature work? It took me fifteen minutes to study and I got a 72. It's super easy and if you can read and understand literature, you're good to go. It's also worth 6 credits. Anywhere you can fit this test in, do it. I hope that this helps, I haven't done anything but highschool and 21 college credits of CLeP so I'm not sure what all the terminology "arts electives" entails.

I was considering this but for the Humanities requirements. I think it qualifies for the 6 credits needed. The Arts & Science elective are related to health, business, computer science, counseling, education &/or nutrition. I will add A&I Lit to my list as overall everyone says it is pretty easy. I appreciate the info!

Welcome to the board!! You will find this is a great forum with lots of friendly, helpful people
As far as what is "easy" .... that is a difficult question to answer because everyone is different and what might be easy for one person is difficult for someone else. Looking at the info you have given, I would say that Human Growth/Dev might be a good one to start with. You have worked as an LPN for 16 years so you would have quite a bit of knowledge in this area believe it or not. Intro to Sociology Clep has also been recommended many times as an "easy" one to start with. As far as Humanities--- if you read literature a lot there are a few tests that are recommended such as A&I Lit as being quick to study for. Do you speak Spanish or another language? There are language Cleps. If you are good at math there is ALEKS which some people knock out in a few days or weeks. If you are a member of IC, I would definitely check out 'Specific Exam Feedback'-- This section of the forum is extremely helpful to get a feel for what people are saying about each exam-- how hard it is, what to study, best resources to use for studying etc. Very valuable info!! Don't be shy about using the search function on this forum... there are tons of threads that will give you great advice and info! Here is a website that has tons of info on each separate test and how to study for each one. Also includes a link for free Peterson practice tests. Hope this helps

Thanks! When the requirements state "sociology core" would an "intro" exam qualify? EC stated on their website that Foundations of Gerontology would satisfy & that was the only example they gave. I just read of ALEKS so I will need to look into that also. Math is not on my list of gen ed req's and I don't know where that would fit in. I am trying to ease into this again and appreciate all the info on this site!!! Kathy

If you have been a practicing LPN for 16 years you can probably start with Here's to Your Health and Substance Abuse. I've been an LPN since 1985, took them both almost cold and did well. Believe me, much of what is on these tests was job-related learning- not anything retained from nursing school. There is also a lot of overlap in these two subjects, so they are a good choice to do two in the same time frame. For both, review your schedule ll, lll, and lV drugs, psych meds and conditions, ADHD drugs and tx. Welcome, and good luck! Whatever you need to know, someone on this site can probably point you in the right direction.

Sounds great! Here's to Your Health & Substance Abuse. What general ed req'ments would they satisfy? Maybe the Arts & Science electives? I also see that you tested on Humanties & Analyze & Int. Lit. What did they satisfy? I was thinking of Analyze & Int Lit to satisfy my humanities requirement. Thanks for the advice!

Here's my 2 cents...
If you have one near you go to half price books and pick up an old CLEP Official Study Guide. I will sample questions from all of the CLEP exams (except any that have changed or been added since the book was published) Mine is the 16th edition but the questions are almost exaclty the same as the current edition.
Print some ABCDE bubble sheets. Go through the exams that you think you know the best in. You will be surprised how much you already know. That you know for you which will be the easiest.
Often Analyzing and Interpreting Lit will be the easiest one but a quick search of this forum will show that that is not true for everyone...
Good luck. You are going to do great!

Here's to your Health- free elective
Substance Abuse- social science (upper level)
Humanities-Humanities (6 cr)
Analyze and Inter. Lit- humanities (6 cr)
I truly do love the 6 credits for the price of 3!$$$$$$$
