Question regarding Pre-legal requirements for State Bar of California
#1
So far I passed the following CELP tests: Principles of Marketing - 3 credits, Principles of Management - 3 credits, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature - 6 credits. Do I now need to take College Composition or College Composition and Modular to satisfy the requirement below. The part that got me confused is the section 2 below 'Two other examinations, each designed to correspond to full-year courses (6 semester hours each**) or four other examinations, each designed to correspond to semester courses (3 semester hours each*)'. Does this mean that total credits is 12 for section 2 - student has to either take 2 x 6 unit tests or 4 x 3 unit tests?
Can the student take 1 x 6 unit test and 2 x 3 unit tests?

POLICY REGARDING COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP)
Rule 4.25(B) OF Title 4, Division 1 of the Rules of The State Bar of California (Admissions Rules)

1. Under Composition and Literature category, either

College Composition*, or
College Composition and Modular*;
AND

2. Two other examinations, each designed to correspond to full-year courses (6 semester hours each**) or four other examinations, each designed to correspond to semester courses (3 semester hours each*) that can be selected from any of the following subjects:

Business

You should contact the Admissions Department of the law schools you're interested in. Additionally, before embarking on something as difficult and expensive as the study of law, you need to be sure that you're ready for all of that reading and writing you'll have to do, so you should get some other opinions besides your own.

It has been a while, but someone on this forum has mentioned using CLEP for this. I do not remeber how detailed the conversation was though. I think it was daniellevine; try searching his posts.

Don't know answer. You should check out the movie "A Lawyer Walks into a Bar" This film highlights the trials and tribulations of trying to pass the State Bar of California exam and follows six wanna-be lawyers struggling to prepare and actually pass the test with the lowest national pass rate.

Don't rely on me for this (ask for clarification, in other words) but I think this is the gist:

Quote:Two other examinations, each designed to correspond to full-year courses (6 semester hours each**)

Means one of the 6-credit "subject" CLEPs. They basically correspond to the categories listed, e.g. there is a Humanities test for 6, a Bio test, a Math test, etc. Each of these is essentially equivalent to a year's study in that subject, i.e. two semesters of Bio, Math, etc.

Quote:or four other examinations, each designed to correspond to semester courses (3 semester hours each*) that can be selected from any of the following subjects:
Composition and Literature (Humanities examination only)
Foreign Language
History and Social Science
Science and Mathematics
Business

Means pick four regular CLEPs as long as they are in one or more of the above areas. You have Marketing & Management from Business. It looks like A&I Lit doesn't qualify because it says "Composition and Literature (Humanities examination only)" which sounds like they will ONLY take the 6-credit Humanities exam -- which ALSO fits rule 1. But it isn't 100% clear.
