I'm 24 years old and new to college. I'm interested in getting a higher degree (a master's or doctorate), and the thought of taking two years to get my associate's degree sounds frightening. I left school in the 7th grade and I haven't had any schooling since. Before my first CLEP, I hadn't had a test since I took the GED five years ago, and the reading & writing COMPASS assessment tests at my college (which I got perfect scores on).
I heard about CLEP and it sounded like the perfect way to make my first two years of college go by quicker. I rushed out and took freshman college comp. with no studying and no advice from anyone. I really thought I was going to pass, and it was going to be great because it was going to satisfy both of my english credits.
The test was HARD. I had no idea how to search for reference material, and no idea how to cite sources. This killed me, I think. I scored 59. Although this well over the standard passing score, my college requires a score of 60. I literally cried.
Now I'm getting nervous about attending college next month, and I really need something to boost my confidence and get me back on track. I was thinking of beginning to study for the Biology CLEP which would test me out of all my biology credits for the first two years of school. I want to begin studying mid-December, and take the test mid-January, before I have my classes to study for.
What do you think? I've been reading the forum and the general thought seems to be that the Biology CLEP is hard, but for some reason I think it's a good next step for me.
I do plan to re-take the english comp in the summer, and I am still very upset that I failed at just under one point.

Use the information found here:

Buy a Biology textbook. You do NOT need a NEW and expensive current edition. Buy an edition from a few years ago and STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! I buy used textbooks at Goodwill for $1 every week. I bought four college algebra textbooks for under a dollar each to use for my college algebra course at straighterline.com
Hang in there, and WORK HARD! DO NOT QUIT! DO NOT GIVE UP!

Welcome to the board!
OK, a couple things.
1. Does your community college accept CLEP English Composition in place of CLEP Freshman Composition? If so, take it. Most places prefer one or the other, however, they are both ENG101/ENG102 so you might get a second shot.
2. An AA in Liberal Arts/General Ed is an excellent choice for testing. How many CLEP credits will your community college accept?
3. Does University of Arizona automatically take your AA and start you off as a Junior?
Welcome!!

Unfortunately, Pima College only accepts Freshman English Comp, as does University of Arizona.
UofA says they accept all CLEP credits as long as they were done before you reach 55 credits.
I'm really not sure about your third question, sorry. I'm really new to all of this, and I don't get a lot of it. I'm having a really hard time trying to decide what tests I should take in the classroom and what I should attempt to CLEP out of.
I wish I could CLEP college math. I'm horrible at math, and I'm just like it to go away as the degree I want is not very math heavy. It's going to be a struggle for me starting at the very bottom of the class list and trying to pass what's required for my degree.

I think you only lose your work if if you have not completed the coursework within the 30 days and cancel your account instead of renewing it afterwards. Here's some info from their site:
"Up to 6 months to complete a course. Start another course whenever you are ready. Courses may be taken simultaneously."
StraighterLine
And also:
"Progress acheived in courses that are not completed at the time of cancellation will not be saved, if you wish to resume work on a course you will need to start again at the beginning"

When I looked it said that the lowest price was 399.00. Did I miss something?

Yes, you missed something:

If you want to pay ONLY $99, then you MUST finish the course in 30 days. If you let them know you only want to pay $99 for the 30 days, and you cancel your monthly subscription, then you will lose all work. You could opt to pay an additional $99 for another 30 days and not lose your work, though.
