Hi Everyone,
I noticed the three new TECEP exams now available. Unlike the other TECEP's, these require a 70% to pass. The other TECEP's only require a 60% to pass. I hope TESC doesn't convert their other exams to the 70% requirement.

I think there will be quite a few revisions and grading changes in TECEPs over the next 6 months.
We must think of TESCs grading scale, a 60-69 is a D and although passing, would not be accepted in certain areas of the degree plan (eg Eng Comp or Area of Study). So you have to wonder if I had scored a 69 on my PSY270 TECEP exam, would they have allowed it to be counted within my area of study, even though it is listed as CR? I think it's confusing. I'm sure that's why the ENG102 TECEP passing grade was changed in October. In all honesty, I always felt those added 10 points were a godsend in that they allow a bit more cushion in passing the exam but it also created a policy issue. What's the saying, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth?"
Who regulates that the actual grade awarded for the TECEP actually meets the requirement to fit those specific slots? In my mind, no one. At one time it was most likely easy to skirt through certain gray areas, which is why I'm sure many published policies/procedures are so evasive. But now that the school is changing, coming out of the shadows into the limelight if you will, they have to develop consistencies across degrees and schools. Then once that is completed, publish exact degree guidelines and procedures. I have always respected TESC for its flexibility but sometimes it just gets confusing and exasperating; especially when dealing with what you would consider a general issue.
I'm quite interested in what changes will roll out prior to and become official once published in the upcoming July catalog.

This is an excellent question. Hopefully they will address this soon!

I embarrassingly passed my PSY270 TECEP exam in October, with an awful 64% (the grade flashed up at the end), and luckily it's sitting in my BA Psychology Area of Study with a happy CR .... I'm a middle aged lady who noticed that guys on this forum were passing this exam with higher grades :o

Thank you for confirming my suspicion!! Well, I guess you can make a case it's not an actual grade but a pass/fail exam based upon a score. The problem: it's not fair to those taking the course format who would not have had the same result.
But again...gift horsel....LOL Some would say, what is truly fair in life? Do you want the answer? Think hard on that because it's not a positive response.:p

Trust me, you aren't the only one who feels that way! I had to complete 5 math classes (the highest being college algebra) for my two associates degrees - neither of which are technical degrees. I got great grades in them, but to this day I still have not been able to memorize the multiplication table, and probably couldn't recall how to solve an algebra equation! I did sales for years dealing a lot in cash, & could sell 3x - 4x what my top co-workers could, but for the life of me I have a terrible memory. A bad memory makes school and testing miserable. In the real world, I am pretty organized and write everything down so the memorization issue isn't a problem. I tracked my sales to customers, knew their spending habits, professions, birthdays, names of kids/spouses etc. I was great at making people feel important, and that they were getting what they wanted, which translated to great sales. Some of us just are skilled in other areas that don't translate so well to the world of memorization/tests/school. We all have our weaknesses and our strong points.
