New To THis Site

Hello everyone, My name is Cindy and this site is all new to me. Can anyone direct me how to use it to my benefit. I am presently studying intro. to sociology. I am into instantcert.com and doing the 157 questions on there. Will go and buy a Rea clep book soon as I get to a book store. Trying to familiarize myself to the people and what they did with my own flash cards. How do you know when you had enough and are ready to test? Then this being my first test, how do I sign up and get registered and ready to take. How long should I give myself to study and take a test? This is so new to me I am giving myself a headache worrying about all this and trying to study at the same time. Thank you to all who can give me some advice. Thanks, Cindy

Hi Cindy,
Welcome to the forum. Sociology is a good one to get your feet wet with. The REA book is great for this exam but Instantcert is enough as well. Just go through the flashcards until you feel confident enough to take the test. Find the college closest to you that gives CLEP exams and the test is $60 plus the admin fee, whatever the college charges to give the test. Other than that, you will get your results immediately after you finish the exam. One word of advice is to always have your scores reported even though you may not feel confident about the exam. You only need roughly half to pass. Good Luck!!!

Use of the IC flashcards, other study material, and practice exams will prepare you to sit the real thing inside of just a few days in some rare cases or just a couple of weeks in mosts cases.

For any specific question on test content and such first take a look through some of the established threads using the "search" feature and/or post a new topic. Either way everyone here in this virtual classroom shares the same goals and aspirations - to earn their degree![/COLOR][/SIZE]

THank you for the infor. very helpful, I am going to buy a CLEP sociology book, the RUE book scares me. How long on an average does it take to study and then take a test. Just wondering if I can keep up or I need to keep up. THanks, Cindy

IC is really all you need for Sociology. As for time, no one can tell you because it depends on how much study time you put in, and how well you retain the information. Study the flashcards, and when you know the material I would suggest taking a Petersons practice test. If you use the "search" function you can find threads on how to log on to the Petersons site for free. Good luck, and try not to stress too much!:p

Since this is your first CLEP and just to be sure and on the safe side, I would encourange you to go ahead and buy the REA study guide, I always use REA study guides where available it really compliments IC and kind of reenforce all the material from IC plus more.

Give you self a complete two weeks, then test yourself with Peterson tests then from there you will be able to tell whether you are ready or not.

I just bought the REA CLEP book from Borders, alot easier to read then the RUE book. Thanks for the help, Im off to studying. Will keep in touch.

Just joined the site today. I'm impressed by the number of credits some of you "oldies" have accumulated. I'm starting at Missouri State in the Fall, after being out of school for 28 years... thought I could CLEP out of alot, but they don't accept many CLEP credits. They'll accept American History I and II, US Govt., Western Civilization I and II, and American Literature. They also accept Micro and Macroeconomics -- which are probably not applicable to my desired degree -- early childhood education, unless I still need elective credits.

So where are you guys going to school that accept so many CLEP credits?

Started working on the History I study tonight -- my goal is to take a test about every 2 weeks until school starts in August. Am I being realistic?
