I initially found the multiple tutorials a bit irritating, and preferred the Sophia 'Written Tutorial'. I only really looked at the tutorial if I didn't pass the challenge quiz on the first attempt.

I'm not saying it's unreasonable - just that it didn't really click with my son, who has a very linear, black-and-white brain. I don't know where he got it, because I'm all over the place and all shades of grey. He just has a mental block when it comes to this format.

Thank you for sharing your son's experience. Sophia courses are self-paced, so it sounds like he is taking advantage of that format to complete the course by a specific date. Yes, the ability to schedule the proctored final opens up once the second-to-last unit summative test is completed, but there is an option with ProctorU to schedule a same-day appointment if needed. Many Sophia students chose that option in order to meet certain due dates or deadlines.
