Newlane University
#1
I saw an ad for Newlane University and read their manifesto on their website.  I wonder if this University will last and wonder what their current enrollment is. Seems like a cost efficient way to obtain a basic degree. Also saw that it is only DEAC accredited, for those wanting to continue to graduate school some universities only accept Regional Accreditatio which Newlane is not from what I can tell.

If there are any current students on here what has your experience been at Newlane?

There were a few posts on Newlane, I can't remember if it was on this or the sister board. I would suggest searching for Newlane and skim through those posts on both boards to get more details (if any extra info come up on the searches).

They have fairly small enrollment guessing from what I have read here in the past and the details on their jobs page (few hours per month for new part-time faculty).
But they have just opened a couple of part-time faculty positions at https://newlane.edu/jobs/, so it seems they are growing.

Thanks for  the information Tomas.  I am curious to see if they grow. It is an interesting concept to obtain a Liberal Arts of Philosophy degree.

I hear you with the price of education and the transfer policy it is hard to beat. Unfortunately, many do stay away from "For Profit " Universities; however It would be nice to see them grow as it seems the founders are true to the cause of providing affordable degree options. The only other thing is it is Nationally accredited which can be a problem for some seeking to advance to graduate schools who only accept Regional Accreditation.

I already have a regional bachelor's, so the accreditation is not a concern for me (I realize not everyone is in this boat). I went ahead and applied and then spoke to the founder--great conversation! I do think I will enroll, but will likely wait a couple months so I can wind up some other projects first.

For anyone else thinking about this program who already has a bachelor's--assuming you are going for the bachelor's in philosophy, a previous 4-year bachelor's generally fills ALL gen ed and elective requirements, according to my conversation yesterday with the founder. So you would only need to take the major courses at Newlane (30 credits) to complete the degree.

Does anyone have any experience with obtaining a NA-accredited bachelor's and then getting accepted to an RA master's program? I can see some value in pursuing a BA with a focus in Business Administration, then applying to an MBA offered by an RA university. Perhaps the BA with a focus in Psychology may lead to acceptance into an MS in Mental Health Counseling at an RA school? Is that a long shot?

I don't, but from what I have seen here and on Reddit, it really depends on the school that is offering the master's degree.

If I were in the position of definitely wanting to grad school in one of those subjects and wasn't sure that a nationally accredited degree would be acceptable, then I would probably look for an RA degree. If you do a lot of alternative credits, you can get an RA degree at a similar price point from University of the People (closest undergraduate majors would be business and Health Science) or UMPI (business or psychology).

This appears to be an old list on the sister forum: https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?thr...try.32664/
