sirjake Wrote:Truly curious: Why would ALEKS be easier than a CLEP? A CLEP is 90 minutes long. My impression of ALEKS is that it'd be many, many days, if not longer (I think there was a thread here about this called ALEKS Hell).

If you already are familiar with the material, wouldn't a CLEP be easier? I might just be missing something about ALEKS.

Thanks.

CLEP if you know the material
ALEKS Jail if you don't, or don't do math well with a timer running

ALEKS is a learning tool that happens to yield credit on the way by.

I know I have added to it several times, BUT (maybe it is my advanced ageConfusedmilelol: ) I can eventually learn enough on Aleks to assess at 70%. To do that I need lots of notes and reminders when I am taking an assessment. When I had to go take the Praxis II in math part of my problem was I knew what things were, but I couldn't remember the exact fomula (is it y=mx+b or X=my+b) or I remembered most of it and one little thing would make me wrong. I could have studied for 2 months putting in a total of 200 hrs to learn Intermediate Algebra or I could put in 60 grueling hours in 2-3 weeks and get the credit. I prefer to just get it done. I know I want to teach math, but I only have to be able to understand how to do it I don't have to memorize everthing. I will always have a book to look at and only one concept at a time to teach.

If you are planning on doing them all, start with the one whose title scares you the least :roflol:

I can have up to 30 credits from testing. That puts me through all of the basic study classes. I eventually have to do them all. I really want to pass one mor CLEP before Christmas. Those are the last few I need. The Humanities and algebra gives me a 6 credits each and the two sciences give me 4 each.

I have to study and get ready for these tests because I have no previous background in any of these.

Since Chemistry is said to be one of the hardest CLEP you might want to consider Biology and Natural Science which is said to be at least half Biology. CLEP recommends 6 credits for each of these. I did not do Biology but I did Natural Science and doing one right after the other would probably be easier.

I have taken chemistry classes through organic and I would still be worried about the Chemistry CLEP.:ack:
