No High School Diploma – Can I Still Transfer 24+ Credits
#1
Your Location: Kazakstan
Your Age: 27
What kind of degree do you want?: BS, for now not specific much
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None
Any certifications or military experience?: None

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice and maybe some personal experiences.
I am international applicant and i’m really interested in continuing my education, but I don’t have a high school diploma or GED . However, I heard that University of the People (UoPeople) may allow students to bypass the high school requirement if they transfer in at least 24 semester credits from sophia, study.com or other platforms. This sounds like a great option for me.
But I’m also skeptical — does this pathway actually work in practice?
Has anyone here successfully enrolled or transferred into UoPeople (or a similar university) without a high school diploma, using college credits instead?
Also, I’ve emailed UoPeople’s admissions team multiple times, but I haven’t received any response yet. So I’m turning to this forum in hopes that someone has gone through this and can clarify a few things:
  • Is the 24-credit transfer option real and still active?
  • Beside UoPeople are there any other universties with such option?
  • Any potential red flags or problems I should be aware of?
Any tips or real-life examples would mean a lot. Thanks in advance!

Sorry if i chose wrong category to post.

Welcome to the board, great intro post with follow up questions! Not sure why you're only providing a partial addendum and template... It would be best to have the overall picture of your scenario. My suggestion is, since you're going to max the transfer of 90 credits towards your degree, complete them through ACE providers such as Sophia.org and Study.com or something you're interested in. Please fill us in with the rest of the info below.

Any certifications or military experience?:

I have heard the same and I will likely try it (as I don't want to spend time and money on highschool diploma transcript) in a couple of weeks.
Not sure what you mean by red flags and problems. If it is a general question, just do a bit of search, UoPeople is a school with relatively vast number of alumni so there is a lot of feedback on the internet.

Thank you for your reply this is additional information:
Any certifications or military experience?: None
Budget: I have a max of $10K
Commitments: Part-time study (evenings and weekend)
Dedicated time to study: 27-30 Hours per week
Timeline: Would like to finish in 2 years.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None

So i need help to choose the best path.
Should i
1)get HS diploma first throught (Penn Foster, James Madison and Excel)?
2) Earn college credits trough sophia, study.com,etc
3)Apply to one of BIG 3 or UMPI, SNHU, UoPeople

or can i skip the first step with just 24 credits during application?
In addition i want to say that i want it be recognized in Germany (H+ in Anabin database) so i think only UoPeople is excluded out of all options explained on the forum.

Not available to pass exams in my current location, have to travel to another country near by. And in total i am not sure if it take much less time than self-paced study in school like excel high school (Their website says i can earh HS diploma in around 5-10 months approx as i understood, now checking with them)

Faster than GED would likely be an ATB test: https://catalog.uopeople.edu/ug_term1_it...on-process

UoPeople is not in Anabin database, as it as removed following accreditation. We will have to wait for someone to report the outcome of recognition request or until it appears there again.
As you have sufficient budget and don't care about kind of BS degree, you will be better off with UMPI I guess.

I passed the GED with (almost) zero studying. Did do the GED Ready prep exams and watched a couple YT vids to familiarize myself with the exams but yeah...

There do seem to be a few centers in your country although obviously you'll have to travel as you said they aren't in your city. You could pass it all in the same day tbh - I'd recommend it instead of other options. I haven't heard of Excel before - their website says they charge $99/month. You could do the GED <$500 and that's with travel costs.

I suggest you do the GED Ready exams for each subject after watching a couple YouTube videos. If you can pass comfortably then you should be fine giving the real exams.

At Excel High School, adult students can complete each grade level in approximately 2 to 3 months, depending on their pace. Additional time can be taken if needed. For adults transferring in prior credits from grades 9, 10, or 11, it may be possible to complete the remaining requirements within two months.
Unlike the GED or HiSET, which rely on a single high-stakes exam, the Excel High School diploma program is based on coursework completed over time. Students have access to ongoing instructional support throughout the program. Excel High School is recognized as the first accredited high school in the state to have earned CBE (competency based education) so the time to complete could be shortened to one month.

I've written about Excel High School, they're alright if you really need that diploma. But, I'd rather do the homeschool option as Excelsior, TESU, UMPI, UoPeople, and other institutions will accept homeschool students who bring in ACE or CLEP credits. Thus, skip Excel and other expensive options, take everything from Sophia.org, Study.com, etc, until you max that transfer and bypass the credits required for admissions or entry.
