Non-US Student: BA in Psychology TESU
#1
Question
Hello,

I am new here, I am inspired by JSD here https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/JS...Psychology and now I am want to pursue my BA in Psychology TESU.

BA in Psychology Credit Distribution

I. General Education Requirements

A. Intellectual and Practical Skills
Written Communication, 6cr (Straighterline ENG101+ENG102, $160)
Oral Communication, 3cr (Straighterline COM101, $84)

Ethics, 3cr (Straighterline BUS106, $59)
Civic Engagement, 3cr (Straighterline POLS101, $59)
Knowledge of Human Cultures, 12cr (around 4 courses? so assume it will be around $400)
Understanding the Physical and Natural World, 4-7cr (2 Saylor Courses, $50)
General Education Electives, 17-20cr (around 7 courses? around $500)

II. Area of Study: Psychology

A. Required Courses
Introduction to Psychology, 3cr (Saylor $25)
Research in Experimental Psychology, 3cr (Study Psych 105, $100)
Social Psychology, 6cr (Study Psych 104 + Psych 316, $200)
History and Systems of Psychology, 3cr (Study Psych 312, $100)
Physiological Psychology, 3cr (Study Psych 311, $100)
Developmental Psychology, 3cr (Study Psych 103, $100)
Abnormal Psychology, 3cr (Study Psych 106, $100)
Statistics, 3cr (Saylor $25)
Ethics in the Social Sciences, 3cr ($100)

B. Capstone
LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone, 3cr (Must be taken at TESU, $300)

C. Psychology Electives, 6cr (Take two, probably at Study, so $200)

III. Electives 21cr (7 courses? $500)

Straighterline cost per month: $99, let say I am registered for 6 months, so around $600)

Total sub cost: $3905
Application Fee: $50
Residency Waiver Fee: $2800
Graduation Fee: $300

The total cost is around $7000

Am I correct? Is there any other cost that I missed? If I finished the Psychology degree and took another degree again (maybe Philosophy), am I need to pay the residency waiver fee again?

For your info, I already have a Bachelor in Civil Engineering from Indonesia, maybe there is any other degree that I could take, and the courses that I have taken:
Drawing of Building Structures 1 + 2, 3cr+2cr
Mechanical Physics, 3cr
Civics, 2cr

Concrete Structure 1 + 2 + 3, 3cr+2cr+2cr
Foundation Engineering 1 + 2, 2cr+2cr
Environmental Engineering, 2cr
Construction Management 1 + 2, 2cr+2cr

According to https://www.tesu.edu/academics/catalog/i...t-policies International students with college-level learning assessed from another country must complete at least 30 additional U.S. college credits, is Study, Saylor and Straightliner is counted as US college credits?

"Students are responsible for all mailing or other transport costs and proctoring fees. United States military personnel are expected to take examinations through the education officer at a military base."
What kind of mailing/transport costs fee should I expect?

"TESU will not evaluate transcripts from other countries. We will accept the credit recommendations from one of the following agencies when the recommendations are based on a course by course evaluation and sent on an official transcript to TESU."

Rought calculation the evaluation fee is about $250 (https://www.acei-global.org/evaluation-s.../#stepsBox)

I little bit confused about the potential of saving if the evaluation is accepted by TESU.

Thank you Smile

If you already have a Bachelor, wouldn't a Master make more sense?

Well, you can't take a SL course for Information Literacy anymore. You have to take it through TESU - currently $1125, if I'm not mistaken.

And the Capstone also costs $1125, not the $300 you have listed.

Other than that, everything looks right.

So your estimate is probably undershooting by about $2200, unfortunately.

TESU waives the Information Literacy requirement if you already have a bachelor's. I don't know if that applies to students who got their bachelor's in another country, but it's worth looking into.

TESU lets you waive all general education requirements if you have a bachelor degree from a regionally accredited college. You should ask admissions though since you have a foreign bachelor degree.

Thank you for the info, I will contact TESU regarding that and will update it here.

Here is the link to refer to when you talk to your advisor. They don't all know about the exemption, so it's good to reference the link in your message: https://www.tesu.edu/academics/catalog/i...equirement

Where did you study? I have a degree from Canada and after it was evaluated COSC accepted all my credits. I am only missing gen ed classes. It pays to get it done. They don't consider it a degree in the U S due to the different credit structure. I could have gotten into a masters in education but they had all of the gen ed as a prerequisite so I might as well do another degree.
