I didn't have the best experience with WGU, personally. I didn't like it all that much.
However, I can say that I tried at least.
I just don't believe that the competency based model is really all that it's meant out to be, personally.
It's kind of wacky and feels weird when I first tired.

WGU, and other competency based options, aren't for everyone... It really depends on the needs/wants of the student and their study habits...

if you're not self-directed it can be a real challenge. I am with WGU at the moment but I have to say I really prefer the COSC/TESU/SDI model that more closely parallels traditional classes

Everyone learns differently, I can see how WGU’s model isn’t for everyone. Some really thrive with the flexibility, others need more structure like what TESU or SDI offers.

I completed 2 bachelor's degrees at UMPI which is a CBE program like WGU. I completed 1 term at WGU for a grad degree and absolutely hated it. I didn't find the staff to be supportive like they were at UMPI. You don't even have a professor at WGU. You have CIs who I didn't find to be helpful when I needed help. My mentor was a complete dingbat. I was hospitalized for 8 days and needed to withdraw because of life threatening illness. I spoke to her multiple times about my situation and every time it was like a brand new conversation. I finally contacted student services about my situation and they guided me through what I needed to do and who to contact. I have completed 2 master's degrees and a grad certificate from Amberton which isn't a CBE program. They have 10 week terms so it's more like a traditional college program. I found this to suit me better for grad courses as there is much more work and details matter.

OP - You can always relay to WGU that you find tiresome or troublesome at the institution, what pitfalls they may be facing, etc...You should also update us with what institution you're deciding on and how it is going so far, if it's CBE or not, etc. Do your due diligence and research the institutions and programs they offer, decide then with one would be a better fit.
