Please Review my TESU Associates (ASBA) Plan
#11
Ideas Wrote:I don't think so, but you could probably do any of these:

Straighterline Introduction to Criminal Justice
Straighterline Introduction to Psychology
Straighterline Introduction to Sociology

There would be other options too, but those are easier courses.

Edit: Well, not if you have Sociology in the other category, but you can replace that.

Those three will work, but you can take all History courses if you wanted, IE: US History I/II, Western Civilizations I/II

I just found another thread: See this one as well: http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...inish.html

bjcheung77 Wrote:Before giving a recommendation, I have a few quick questions, are you wanting speed or ease of completion?
Do you have a preference of one or the other (SL vs Study.com)? Cheap/Easy/Fast or just "high school" easy?

My suggestion actually is, since it's a goal and it will take some time for this to be completed to do the following.
1) Take the FREE courses at the bottom of my signature - this is for free elective credits
2) For general education electives, take ALEKS Intermediate Algebra and Precalculus OR Trigonometry

I checked the amount of work for some of the courses, it depends on the course, but here's my recommendations below.

Associate in Science in Business Administration (ASBA) @ TESU.

{Intellectual and Practical Skills}
ENC-101 WRITTEN COMM - English Composition I 3(SL) or Change to Study.com - 3 written assignments vs 9 @SL
ENC-102 WRITTEN COMM - English Composition II 3(SL) or Change to Study.com - 3 written assignments vs 8 @SL
COM-209 ORAL COMM - Oral Communication/Public Speaking 3 (SL) or Study.com - both has 3 videos/speeches
SOC-101 DIVERSITY - Sociology 3(SL) - Or take Cultural Anthropology

{Electives} 3 Credits Needed Here.
ALEKS Intermediate Algebra - Take this before you take College Algebra, then take Precalculus OR Trigonometry.

For myself and many of the forum members, I chose to do the bulk of my coursework at Straighterline first.
And for the remainder of my classes that I couldn't get at Straighterline, I finish it off with Study.com
Get a spreadsheet up and running, or copy the one on the thread below or wiki - add a sheet for your ASBA
You may want to do the same as these people: http://www.degreeforum.net/saylor-org-st...1-via.html
Also see this thread: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...-asba.html

I was looking forward to getting your feedback bjcheung77 and as usual it is very helpful. I lean towards Ease of Completion (as in difficulty of completion) above all else. English 101 @ SL is non-proctored. That is convenient/fast but I am not sure that makes it "easier" considering the workload differences you point out.

Why would I need to take Precal or Trig? the ALEKS Intermediate Algebra fulfills my Elective Requirements. I agree with you on the selection/layering/overlap strategy.

Thank you again for pointing out the workload differences. I will keep Public Speaking at (SL) and I will look at replacing the rest of the SL. While I'm here, Could Humanities 101: Intro to the Humanities OR Psychology at Study.com replace that Saylor Political Science 101???

I know where you got your original ASBA plan from on TESU's website using the Open Course Option.
Open Course Option for ASBA
Because some if not all of the courses are "harder" and will take more time, I suggest the SL/Study.com way.

You want to take Precal or Trig because it is required for your BSBA you'll be going for.
You can probably finish it with the same month subscription as your Algebra.

Yes, humanities course can use either of those courses you mentioned, here's a list directly from TESU themselves.

Damn you are good bjcheung77! That is exactly what I modeled most of my degree plan after! So lets say I want to my degree plan as easy as possible (high school easy). Should I lean Study.com first and SL Second OR is it the other way around? I really don't know how I could make the Management Core easier but I am going to take a fresh look at my Gen. Requirements.

I would say, the lesser the work, the better/easier for you... so, for your English Comp's, go with Study.com as it only has 3 written assignments.
For the rest, you have to check their course load/work and "ease" of passing. Some Study.com courses have finals weighted 100 out of 300.
I would take all of those I can from Study.com, but the majority are rated 100 for quizzes completed, and 200 for finals.
It has a higher degree of failing than SL, and that's the main reason I tell people to decide on courses by looking at their syllabus.

For the majority of SL courses, it's 70% for exams/midterm, etc and 30% final. You can get credit for the course before you hit final.
Further to that, SL has courses that have open book exams, it's pretty much a pass for all their courses (but STATISTICS!)
Study.com majority is 100 quizzes/200 final, which means you can prob get 100 on quizzes, but you need 60% on final to pass.
Preference wise, I chose SL over Study.com for courses, ones I couldn't get or aren't offered, I'm doing them at Study.com

I took a look at a few of the threads about SL that you sent me and the open book exams combined with 70% for exam to 30% for final has me sold. I also agree with you about knocking out Precal or Trig with ALEXS even though it is not required it would be wise to take care of it for my Bachelors. I'm going to rebuild my plan with an SL focus. What I will post is my revised degree plan. I will still use the TESU groupings so what you will see will not be my plan of attack/sequential order selection to take advantage of subject overlap.

Here's a spreadsheet I modified from one of dfrecore's templates, mainly using Straighterline and finishing it off with Study.com
It's a BSBA GM - for the AOS, I suggest taking the 3 SL courses, and Study.com Digital Marketing & Advertising that I marked in red.

You can decide on the final two courses, but I recommend checking them out. I would recommend HR Management and Project Management .
The utility of the course would be better than the other options OR, you can take the two Study.com accounting courses as it's "easier".

If you want, complete your ASBA with these exact courses, and then ladder up to the BSBA GM. Make your own desired changes if you want.

Just some info:

No, Humanities will not fulfill the Civic Engagement requirement - you should take American Government at SL or Study.com

You do not need to take Precalc or Trig for the BSBA, only College Algebra and Stats. Take Intermediate Algebra and College Algebra for sure through ALEKS, you may or may not want to take Stats there as well (harder than it needs to be).

You want to take at least 1 month at Study.com, to get the discounts: waiver of the Cornerstone course ($300) and Discount on Residency Waiver fee ($1800 instead of $2500). Choose at least 2 courses at Study.com to get the best deal for this (the $199/mo fee pays for 2 courses).

For English Comp I & II, I personally wouldn't take them through SL OR Study.com. I would either:
1) Take the College Comp w/Essay CLEP; or if you didn't want to write an essay
2) Take College Comp Modular CLEP and Advanced College Comp DSST exam
3) Take the TECEP's. I took English Comp II TECEP and thought it was a piece of cake. And I only had to spend an hour of my life on it, with no papers to write.
4) Take the Davar Academy exams (not sure if these are exams only, or if you have to write papers - I would consider it if they were exams only)
I would rather test out than write papers any day of the week.

I would also consider testing out of anything I could using Davar in June, since they're having a special right now: unlimited exams in June for $99. If you signed up for every single course and took all of the Davar exams, you would save a ton of money. I would probably try to test out of as many courses as humanly possible for the month, just go crazy in there!

---------------------

I personally would not get the ASBA at TESU, as I think it's way overpriced. You could get an AA at COSC for less, mapping the courses from the BSBA requirements at TESU so that you kill 2 birds with 1 stone. But that's just me.

The Trig is not required but I agree with BJ that if I am in the math mindset then I might as well knock it out now if in case I pursue a Bachelors later. I could easily change my mind midstream if ALEKS is more time consuming than I anticipate. I'm sold on SL now with open book exams and with most finals being only 30% of the grade. I honestly don't mind paying more money in the long run for that trade-off. I understand what you are saying about the ASBA being overpriced however, this is about achieving a personal goal for myself.

dfrecore, I appreciate you sharing your insights on how to test out VS. writing papers. Are you saying that Option "#2) Take College Comp Modular CLEP and Advanced College Comp DSST exam" allows someone to avoid writing papers completely? So those two exams map to ENC 101 & 102? I just want to make sure I understand you correctly because I did not even know that was possible. I will look into Davar as well. Thanks again for the advice.
