I am planning on taking my first clep test for principle of management tomorrow...
I have been studying like crazy. I got the College Board CLEP Study Guide for Principle of Management and finally got 81 on that test.
The Peterson I past the first two with 83 - 70 the third one totally boobed on.
I have been studying the
Principles of Management CLEP Study Guide and after taking it 15 times I finally got my score to 81.
and been studying on
Flashcard Exchange: The world's largest online library of printable flashcards and doing great on these and passing those tests with 78 - 91..
I am wondering with me not doing that well on the Peterson all three tests and having a difficult time passing the REA, am I ready??
I don't want to continue to keep studying the wrong stuff...

Your practice test scores look good! Look over the Cliff's notes:
Principles of Management. I used only IC and Cliff's notes for this. I also took the Free CLEP Prep practice test and the Official CLEP study guide practice test. I actually found the OCSG practice test (scored 75%) to not be as close to the actual test as many of the other practice tests have been. Especially look at the sections on leadership, teams, management styles, and make sure you know the 5 parts of management: planning, organizing, staffing, directing/leading, and controlling. Check the Specific Feedback section if you have access to it. The concepts are important, and during the test, Process of Elimination is very important!
Hope it goes well!!

Well, studied everything that this forum had suggested and past everything with 70+ but took the test today and the test did not have half the stuff that I studied.. I guessed at over 50 questions, there were a handful that I did study for. needless to say, I did not pass... got a 44. with this experience I am thinking twice before taking any more clep tests. because I studied their guide, studied almost all the stuff recommended here and did not help at all...
just wonder if they give different tests for different areas...
I was really hoping to get most of my college credit via the clep but guess not...
very disappointing.

Don't give up after one test, many have failed and gone on to pass others with flying colors. You can take it again in six months or try one of the many other exams. If you are looking for specific credit then you'll have to check for matches but for many people Analyze and Interpret Literature (CLEP - 6 credits) is easy. Others find success with the Supervision exam (DSST - 3 credits). Although it wasn't a good experience don't let it stop you.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

I'm sorry Kathy! But I agree with cooperalex that the Supervision DSST is easier than the CLEP Management, especially since you've studied the Management stuff already. I'm beginning to think the Management CLEP was recently refreshed or something, since I've heard more than one report of it being really hard and unrelated to the study materials. But don't give up!

You wondered if different tests were offered in different areas. No, that isn't the case. Two people can be sitting right next to each other in a testing center, be seated for the same test, and be offered different questions. Good luck on your next exam.

I'm sorry you didn't pass this one! That can be so disappointing!! But I will also encourage you not to give up after failing one. I saw a quote once that said something like "You don't fail until you quit trying."

Yes, everyone's tests can be different. I agree with Cooperalex's suggestions for tests to try next. I would continue using a variety of resources too - they give different information and often explain the same things in different ways. Let us know how your next test goes!

I sound like a broken record but the only resource you need to pass is the REA Principles of Management book. The problem is you have to read the entire book. Most people just want to get started on answering questions instead of reading the content. This is a mistake.
Buy the book and read the entire thing. I read it on my elliptical and was hooked in the first chapter when the author discussed the origins of management and the ancient Egyptians' "rule of ten".
Once you read the entire book do a practice test and study the detailed answers to the ones you got wrong. Then retake that same practice test until you get a 100%.
Next take the second practice test and re-study the ones you got wrong. Keep the final practice test in your back pocket to determine if you are ready for the exam. Do not take the final test until you think you are ready. This avoids memorizing facts.
