Question about the TEEX cybersecurity classes
#1
I had read here that they have to be completed by the end of May. What does that mean exactly? When I signed up for them it says I have until the end of September to complete them. I'm wondering because I want to set those aside for now and work on the study.com classes since the scholarship is definitely limited in the time I have to finish.

BTW does anyone know how long these teex classes are? I hate the way it's set up so that you can't see how long the modules are until you take pre-tests and post-tests.

The ace accreditation for those classes expires at the end of May.

They may renew accreditation past that time. They have renewed before, but that doesn't mean they will again.

So technically, you can finish them by whatever term they gave you, but to guarantee that they will get put on your ace transcript, you should finish by the end of May.

Each of the classes(cyber security 101, 201, 301) is made up of 3-4 smaller classes which is made up of several modules(usually about 6-7 I think). Each module has the pretest, course content, and post test.

So, depending on how well you know the material or can learn the material, I estimate that each module can take about an hour. Some are easier and some are harder.

My son started Cyber101 last night and is on module 6 of the first class. There are 3 classes inside Cyber 101, so it's taking a bit of time- I agree with the above poster, figure an hour per just to be safe. So, roughly 20 hours per 2 credit course sounds right.

Edit to add: my son who did these in 2015 paced himself at 1/month as part of his regular homeschool, so M-F one module at a time. He was in 8th grade, so wasn't familiar with any of the content to speak of. Someone with more testing acumen or existing knowledge can go faster.

I took one out of the cyber 101 then decided to pass on the rest of them because that was so easy for me and I don't need the class anyway. I'm just looking for upper level classes at this point. I got into the second one and it's a lot harder. There are things I don't know already and have to remember quite a bit so I have to take some notes. Some of the modules are so long (with 64 "screens") that it's taking me hours to do just the one.

Just like any online course, it depends on how much you already know about the subject. Like you I flew through Cyber 101 since a lot of it is basic computing and ethics stuff, but 201 and 301 were a lot more challenging. Partially because there was some new material I was less familiar with, but also because the way they describe/interpret some things is different than the way I learned them, so I had to adjust my perspective. All in all, I think I spent about 10 hours on Cyber 101, and double that on each of Cyber 201 and 301. I did 101 over a weekend, and 201+301 over the course of a week.

I originally did Cyber 101 and then put them on hold to work on Study.com scholarship, but ended up rushing back to finish up Cyber 201 and 301 because they were originally set to expire at the end of February or March, and I wanted to get the exams completed before expiration. Soon as I finished them they extended the date to May, but I was glad I got them done anyway.

The key to passing those easily is to do the pre and practice exams a few times and study the questions you get wrong. The same questions appear in the actual exams (sometimes reworded) so if you can pass the practice exams easily, you'll do fine on the final exam usually.

My son's first Cyber101 course recorded 10 hours, but I'm not sure if that's actual time or their default designation.
