Question for Amberton University MAPD/Counseling students/grads
#1
If you have recently attended Amberton for the MAPD or counseling degree - which were your favorite classes/professors and why? Were some classes easier than others either because of the content or reduced workload?

I am currently taking The Power & Wisdom of Love and have really enjoyed so far. Great summer class as the content is straight forward, enjoyable and not difficult. I only took one this session bc I wanted to enjoy my summer. However, I’m wanting to select the remainder of my courses and plan out which ones are most doable for me.

I’m interested in taking lifespan development in the fall but am afraid it might be rather difficult in terms of workload and content. Only interested in that one because it’s a required pre-req for Adult Psychopathology which I really want to take! Here’s some other courses I’m considering - would love feedback from anyone who has taken them!

- Human Resources Inventory
- Human Sexuality
- Stress Management
- Adult & Geriatric Psychopathology
- Motivation
- Developing Human Potential
- Lifespan Development

*bonus points if you have feedback on any of the required courses/professors.

Thanks in advance!

The only course on your list I've taken is 'Human Resources Inventory' - really enjoyed it (enlightening), recommend it.  I took it with Stacy Page (Summer 2022). The current Summer 2023 syllabus has the same reading materials except it is with Matthew Reagan; but the assignments are different. However, the winter 2023 version could be different assignments/professor than what is offered right now.

The professors change every term. One great thing about Amberton is that you can see the course syllabus before registering for a class. This gives you the ability to see who the professor is - there's no choice for 99% of their courses as there's only 1 section available online. Ethics was the course I had an option of professors for when I took it. The syllabus also shows you what you'll be reading and how quickly you'll be reading through it. And it lists what other work there will be such as discussions, written assignments, research papers, PowerPoint presentations, group assignments, etc. If you are not thrilled with the professor this term, then you may want to wait and see who teaches it next term. Some courses don't rotate through professors so this is something to check for in the syllabus. You can see the last term of syllabi so you'll see who taught it then.
