Hi everyone. I tried searching but never came up with a definitive answer.
I'm wondering if anyone can give me an opinion on the level of difficulty of REA exams compared to the actual CLEP exam? I'd like to sit in on the Intro. Sociology exam sometime this week (If I can schedule it). I'm studying both IC flashcards and the REA book. I'll supplement that with wikipedia/google and the practice exam in the CLEP study guide.
Anyways, I've studied most of the weekend and I'm hitting 95%ish on IC and 99% on the REA exams. That's after 2-3 tries each.
I know Peterson's are viewed as being harder than the real thing but how about REA?
Thanks. btw, this will be my first exam and I'll quickly follow it up with Intro. Psy.

95% on IC and 99 on the REA.
Youre Ready!!
As far as the REA's go. I have read on here that for some exams the REA is harder, but then for others they are easier.
I used REA and IC for sociology and wasnt even doing as good as you are but i still passed.

I love REA guides. I would say if you are passing REA with more than 60% you are very ready. That said, you won't get 2-3 tries on the exam, and you won't get the exact same questions. So, if you want to double check your level or readiness, check the "answers" to be sure you know if they are important or bunk (sometimes answers are bunk, but other times it's the guide's way of brining the subject into the test). So, if your question was something like:
1. Who was blah blah blah about this theory or that?
a) Mickey Mouse
b) Donald Duck
c) Goofy
d) Pluto
e) Minnie Mouse
Even if the answer to the question is "a", be sure to understand the significance of the others. Who was Donald Duck? What did he contribute....

Thanks fore the responses! I have 2 more practice exams I haven't touched yet. The 3rd REA and the one from the study guide. I'll use those to judge how prepared I am.
Jennifer, I think you're right on target. It's important to read (and understand) the answers to the exam questions as they cover a lot of stuff not included in the book.
The way I have been studying is to start with IC. I went through the the first couple of sets until I achieved 90% or so. I then took the first practice exam and scored lows 50s (scaled score). Read the book, finished the ICs and took the 2nd practice exam. upper 50s this time. Read the answers to both exams, go over IC again and re-take both exams. That's when I'm hitting 80 (scaled score).
The book is ok but I think the explanations from both IC and the REA exams really help a lot more in understanding the material.

I think you should try and get in to take your test within the next day or two.
Good Luck!

I tried to schedule for today but they were full so I'll have to settle for Thursday. That's ok as it will give me time to review a bit.

I just completed the exam on Monday 8/18. I mainly used REA and passed without issue. You should do well. Best of luck!

REA guides are really my favorite. The tests just depends of which subject, but you are in the 90's w/IC and REA. Sit the test! Break a leg

So completed my first exam today and hit a 64. I think the exam was rather frustrating. I got a lot of statistical type questions that I wasn't prepared for. Even though I never felt like I was doing so bad I was going to fail it, I was (pleasantly) surprised by the score I got in the end.
