Need Help Planning Degree Path
#1
Hello I’m new here.

I work as a security guard and most days I work 12 hour shifts. The site I work at I really do next to nothing so I can dedicate a lot of time everyday to school work.

I am in my 40’s and I completed some basic college courses back in a junior college but that was about 20 years ago.

My goal is to get a degree as fast as possible and get out of doing security. I really dislike writing assignments and would much rather do quizzes and exams. I know I probably can’t avoid writing assignments completely but I want to go where there is the least amount required.

I heard WGU is a good option for that and in particular the BS in IT Management is a quick path to a degree. I want to CLEP out of as much as I can using Modern States. Then I plan to use Sophia & Study to complete the remainder of the transferable courses.

How do I find out which CLEP exams I can take to cover the requirements for WGU BSITM? I work 7 days a week and most days are 12 hour shifts. I have to do most things on my phone, but trying to match what Clep, Sophia, Study classes match up with WGU is new to me and I am getting confused.

Today is May 14th 2025 and I plan to use the rest of May to get my game plan together. Then June 1st I would like to start. I would like to finish all transferable credits before the end of November so that I can submit everything to WGU. To my understanding WGU needs 1 month to process all transcripts and then I can start my Degree Program January 2026 and hopefully finish in 1 term.

I was hoping I could get some feedback and advice on how to find the transferable courses, what you think about my timeline, and if WGU is the right choice for me as a person who wants to minimize writing assignments. Also since I have to do everything from my phone which do you think is better Sophia.org, Study.com, StraighterLine, or are they all ok using a iPhone?

Welcome to the board, great intro post with some information, but you're missing the bulk of the addendum and template details here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

You should take some time reviewing the posts, threads, WIKI in regards to WGU and the degrees they offer, we even have plans up for them, you just need to make your own spreadsheet and use the recommended options.

Basically, I would start with the Study.com College Starter at $95/month, 2 classes at a time, unlimited classes within the month, of mainly lower level courses. You have 67 classes to select from, most if not all can go towards the general education and electives of the degrees from institutions we recommend. I would get at least 90+ credits through them for max transfer into TESU, UMPI, WGU, etc. If you're OK with NA degrees, this can be completed entirely using mobile devices: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...100-Mobile
