It's silly to exclude online programs. Most adults can only get their degree by taking courses online due to work and family commitments. This is just yet another way that Congress is out of touch with the public. I guess that's what happens when you have so many Traditionalists in charge. They have no idea what life is really like for the majority of the population in 2022.

You can't earn more than a basic certificate for completing a course in 8 weeks. There are a few on here who completed their UMPI degree in 8 weeks at UMPI but this is extremely rare.

I think the purpose of the bill is to allow students to receive grants for quick job training programs. That's probably why they excluded online. One can become a CNA or EMT in eight weeks. I think schools have also been creating short construction and manufacturing programs. There's not much you can learn online in eight weeks that will lead to a job.

Most aid is geared towards degree programs, I think they're trying to have options for those seeking applied or hands-on programs that can be completed in a shorter time frame. This might be valuable if aid can be used for all programs, at least to a certain point. We should provide more aid to those to get them into the job market (a quick trade such as baking, barber/hairdressing, or others such as logistics, warehouse, etc).

Online degrees are now and will still be Pell eligible. This proposal is about non-degree training, so this is still an expansion of Pell.

This is silly, but I do feel like the focus is go create more educated and credentialed workers in what are essentially blue collar jobs that cannot be done online.

I'm thinking some sort of IT Bootcamp, and those would certainly be online.

There are many online programs which are 7 or 8 weeks long. Pell is a pain with those because all of the schools who have these sessions don't have semesters. Pell is awarded by the semester not the 8 week session. And there are sooooo many online programs today. Online education has only grown the last 2 years.
