Signatures are getting BIGGER!!!!!

cookderosa Wrote:No reason to be snarky - I know what you said. For the 10 years I've been here, people have posted degree progress in their signatures, it's a "signature" of this forum. Updating a signature after a passed test or earned credential is a big deal here - especially in a world that doesn't much care that someone just passed their CLEP exam. This is the one little corner of the internet where people do care. The signatures are awesome. For what it's worth- I can't even see your font it's so small.
Saying "Huh? Why?" when you understood exactly what I meant wasn't snarky?

I care, too. I don't want people to eliminate the info, just compact them a little. Unfortunately the font sizes seem to vary a lot depending on the browser platform. I bumped to size 2, and it didn't seem to get too much longer.

well, I don't see Slgoer asking for votes on how to improve his platform, so I guess we'll each just have our opinions and that's that.

Posting this on a flight to Colombia and it is showing odd so not sure if it is working but I am feeling like a rebel so posting anyway Wink

As for this interesting signature conversation, I would agree with the majority that has viewed them as a value. I can remember the early start to my degree run and each signature I found interesting and inspiring. They were not only examples of the tests but countless examples of all the different success stories. It inspired me to get off my butt and knock out some exams so I could update my signature. Prior to receiving my degrees I also had several test scores listed in an effort to hopefully inspire someone else. I have since transitioned to just showing the degree. Now I am inspired showing lengthy detailed signatures ending with a Ph.D. and would have most likely not had really entertained my current path if not for them. Overall, in a free open forum with signatures that balance between self-celebration and group resource, I think we should let things stay as they are.

Wondering if this is a real question on the signatures because davewill your signature would not be considered short? Smile As for those that post shorter than their signature, I know there are times when that can happen but one would imagine this happens far less than being positioned.

davewill Wrote:While I think it's really valuable for people to be able to see what tests and courses people have taken, signatures are getting way too long, IMHO. It would be good if folks could compact their formatting, abbreviate and use the smallest font for them. On portable devices, especially, you scroll through as much sig as you do content.

To the mods: would it be possible to make the default font for sigs be the smallest font?

I'm one whose siggy is frequently longer than my posts, but my educational journey has been long and varied, so I'm not going to feel too bad, lol. It's also been pretty much the same length for close to a year or two, and no one has msged me asking to have it condensed, so I'm guessing [hoping] mine wasn't the one that was the OPs final straw Wink

I've been here at df for close to 9 yrs, on & off, and still enjoy reading inspirational quotes, lists of courses, degrees, helpful links, getting a feel of personalities and sometimes even character in the siggys I see. It might just be me, but I tend to skim over long or frequently seen signature lines, so I don't even "see" them half the time anymore.

I do agree that spreading courses out purposely or using more words to make a siggy look more "full" is annoying, and fortunately I haven't seen too many like that.

Overall I'm thankful for the freedoms we have here at df, including this discussion :iagree:

I love long, interesting signatures! Like RANSOMSOUL said, it's inspiring, and reading everyone's progress allowed me to build confidence....that it CAN be done! Keep the interesting sigs!

One more thing, aren't you the guy who inboxed me "telling" me to shorten my sig? davewill. That was creepy and weird.
