Sophia Help
#1
Good Afternoon everyone, I have been lurking for a long time and finally decided to sign up for Sophia and start working towards my BSLA. I started fulfilling some of my math and science requirements but my question is what courses can I take on Sophia that will help we fulfill my Arts and Science Lower Level requirements? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated! I know for my UL I need to use Study or SL.

Yes I am using Excelsior. I have about 12 Credits under the “Arts and Science Lower Level” category. I guess my question is can I take courses like Art History 1/2, Intro to Business etc to fill those 12 credits or so. If not how will I Know what courses I can take to fill those LL credits. I apologize I’m really new to this.

Business is not an art or science. Arts and Science are arts - art, languages, communications. Sciences - chem, geology, bio, etc. Social sciences like economics, history, psych, and sociology. Business falls under Applied Professional.

That depends what you have already completed for the degree requirements. Do you have a plan? Or an evaluation?

I have my transcript but I do not have a degree plan. I took environmental science at Sophia for the science requirement but I have never taken biology, chem, art history at a college.

@Just Passing Through, Welcome to the board, Excelsior is a great option when you can transfer in 113 credits into their degree program and complete a BSLA.  Having said that, UMPI BLS is another choice if you have the energy, money, time to get things done in a session or two.

Keep your options open...  In order for us to help you more, you should follow this template and last post addendum, the more details the better, so we will know your budget, commitments, situation, etc: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

Im keeping my options open but Sophia - Study - Excelsior are my best option. I need to be able to self-pace my credits because of my work schedule. I also have two young children so being able to take credits here and there is highly beneficial for me. Im not in a rush, I would like to finish next fall or early 2024.

I dropped out of college about 15 years ago to work full time and it was the right decision at the time but being away from it for so many years I feel completely lost with trying to pick the correct courses.

Coopersmith is also self-paced and can be even better for a busy schedule than SDC is. SDC is $200/mo whether you take 0 course, 1 course, or 2 courses. Coopersmith is $150 per course, whether it takes you 1 week or 1 year to finish. The biggest downside of Coopersmith is that they use ProctorU and some people have serious problems with ProctorU when they go to take their exams.

We know how at least some Coopersmith courses will count at Excelsior: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Co...Consulting
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210
