This Accounting stuff is hard. Has anyone ever failed this class?
Should I take their two economics classes?
Are their economics classes as bad as their Accounting ones?

Took accounting 1 and 2 years ago in a face-to-face (F2F) class....hate to tell you this, but it IS just plain HARD!, especially if math is not your best subject. Don't fool yourself. You better be prepared to work really hard on these subjects.
Personally, I usually choose to do these types of courses in a F2F class and even then I make sure to go to RateMyProfessor.com to make sure I get the teacher who others say are willing to spend time clarifying and not just barreling on by those who have trouble. It makes a difference.
That's my personal choice as I know my learning style.
Others here may be able to share some other sites with more personal "tutoring" for these types of subjects though.
Good luck!

Here's my
SL frustration thread.
My advice to you is just power through it. My motivation, other than finishing my bachelor's of course, was finishing both Accounting courses before the month was up and I had to pay them again. Given the quality of the course, I did NOT want them to have any more of my money. Also I didn't have the extra month to spare...Excelsior Business Policy was coming up.
Don't be afraid to do the quizzes open book. In fact, some of the quizzes are so messed up, you flat out need to. Sometimes it doesn't matter how well you know accounting; they are testing you on the wording of the book, not the subject matter. Some questions got repeated on the same test twice. There were other questions with two of the exact same answer choices. They simply were not paying attention when they threw this together.
And yes, the material is quite difficult as well. I burned myself out learning all that in a month. I don't remember the last time I felt so unmotivated to study as I did after finishing this. It is doable, and it can be done within the allotted month if need be, but it is no cake walk. Take two months if you can afford the time and monetary cost. Good luck, and keep pressing on.

Hearing things like this makes me very glad I took and passed the Macroecon CLEP. I only had 2 weeks to prep, and I still passed. Yes, with only a 57 that I could have boosted up if I had longer, but a pass is a pass.... and I would much rather do that than deal with an organization that is massively disorganized. I all ready have done that with TESC.

I don't understand the hatred that some people have for Straighterline. These are actual classes with difficult material. Do you really think that their partner colleges would offer credit for them if the classes were a cake walk? You need to have the books and you need to learn the material to pass.
The real benefit to straighterline is that you work at your own pace. I loved the fact that I can spend 5 hours or so studying every day and finish the class in a week or so. Stick to it, read the material, utilize the smarthinking tutors, and you will do great.

Well said Billchrz!!!! I also appreciated the ability to finish a course at my own pace. I wish they would expand their course selection to offer some upper level courses.

I don't hate straighterline and I don't consider myself dumb, but Economics 1 in the first section threw me. I have a lot of years experience in business, and pretty good at accounting but when we got into applied curves they were speaking greek to me. Still if I took the time to muddle through I could get through the course. Straighterline with the exception of the math, is not a cake walk as someone said. They are regular classes and expect the student to work like in any other class. Some students here have passed the courses rather quickly, probably are extremely bright or have prior knowledge of the subject. Just like any other subject that you are new in, give it time to soak in, don't give up and keep plugging along.

I haven't taken any SL classes yet (although Managerial Acctng is a possibility) but I think that the biggest problem that some students have remarked upon is the number of errors and/or poor editing of the material. It is kind of hard to learn a concept if the material presented to you contains inaccuracies or errors.

I'm finding the same as some SL students. I do email them if I find any inconsistencies. Most of the time though I just clench my teeth and try and bear it

I had the idea of sending them this whole big file I started on the material errors (not even bothering with the typos, which would have been a mammoth undertaking) but then they (Straighterline) told me that they knew all about them but McGraw Hill still couldn't be bothered to fix it all.
