Straighterline Comp 1 - Essay Submission Question
#1
Hi All...

Hope someone can help... I'm slowly working my way through Straighterline's English Comp 1, and have completed my first written assignment (decided to start with the Descriptive Paragraph) but am unsure how to submit it. I've accessed the Smarthinking Essay Center and found the area to submit the paragraph for review (I'll attempt this first), but I'm lost as to WHERE to submit the paragraph for the actual grade.

It states that once you are ready for the assignment to be reviewed by a Straighterline grader, submit your assignment through the course website - again, I've thoroughly searched, but am completely lost...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!Smile

Good Morning SuZQ2-
When you are ready to submit the essay, you have two choices, either send it in as a draft for review first (which I recommend) or send it directly for a grade. To submit as a draft for review click on assignments, then click on topic 5, then click on Optional: Submit a draft descriptive paragraph. It will show a page that looks like an email page. Attach the document and submit for review. Turn around time is usually within 24 hours.

To submit directly for a grade follow the same steps but click on required: submit a final draft. A similar email screen will pop up and attach file and you are good to go.

Good luck!

I have my last essay for this one to submit this week and I will be done!!

Thanks so much chiquitacobbe - I never saw the direct link in the topic! The only place I could find to submit a draft for review was through Smarthinking - in the Tutoring section where you choose the Essay Center and "submit your writing and receive comments". That area brought up a box where you download your essay and pick two specific areas where you want help (Main Idea/Thesis, Content Development, Organization, Word Choice, Grammar, etc.) Did you use this at all?

Wow..Congratulations on your progress - fantastic that you're down to your last essay!:hurray: I am so bogged down/stressed out by the amount of writing necessary to complete this course. As I have no prior experience in any type of English Comp, its taking me forever to figure out what to write and how to write it...AHHHHHHHHH!!!!:ack:

I sounds like you're taking quite a few Straighterline courses at the same time - how do you do it? Can I ask how much time it takes you to write each of the Comp 1 Essays? I should finish somewhere around the year 2020.:ack:

I should finish Eng Comp 1 this weekend. It took about 6 weeks. I did a paper every weekend and sometimes two. I always sent them as a draft first. I felt that helped a lot and like I said the turnaround time was less than 24 hours. The hardest one was the argumentative for me. I have the research paper complete too that was time consuming as well but just pick a topic you are interested in.

I'm also taking eng comp 2. I signed up for that about 3 weeks later and it will probably take around the same timeframe maybe a little longer because I have a vacation planned in between. So in total it will be about 12 weeks or so. Not bad I don't think.

Inbox me if you have any questions. Did you take all the quizzes?

I am working on my first SL essay - "Descriptive Paragraph". I have a question around this. Do we have the liberty to choose our own topic for the essay? Or we need to pick up one photo from time magazine News Photos - News Pictures - Photo Essays - Interactive Graphics - TIME.com and prepare the essay about this picture?

thanks

English Comp 1 and 2 are far more time consuming than any of the other SL courses, most of the others are assessed via multiple choice exam only and you will be able to get through them much quicker (I think the only other SL courses which require actual writing are science ones with a lab, and the business communications one which has a couple of short reports to write).

If the instructions have not changed since late last year (when I completed SL's Eng Comp I) the assignment specifically states you MUST pick a photo from the Time website and include the "url" for your chosen photo with your completed assignment.

Just as an aside - it helps to pick a photo that appeals to your imagination and has lots of interesting details for you to describe.

Is there a proctored final with Comp 1 and 2 or just writing assignments?

Thank you. There is no proctored final. Just quizzes and assignments.
