Study.com History and Systems of Psychology

Thanks @alram, that's very helpful.

It still seems off to me, as I imagine schools would still want a credit-source document. It's too credit-laundering like as is.

I have recently requested the EC-NCCRS-Study.com transcript. The transcript is on EC official letterhead and says "National College Credit Recommendation Service" at the top and lists Study.com as the source of the credits and then the courses completed, number of credit hours. It looks very much like an ACE transcript. The price is $40 for a student copy. You have to pay $12 for an additional "official copy" to be sent to a university or an "official copy" sent to you in a sealed envelope that you can, in turn, send to a university. If you want to add courses to the EC transcript you have to pay $25 per provider and then an additional $12 fee for an official transcript to be sent again. The whole process took about 2 weeks from when I filled out the form at Study.com to when TESU posted the transcript to my account.

yikes. one of the huge benefits of the NCCRS credit i had was that the transcripts were free and quick. That's a bummer that Study.com/EC are complicating this process and charging for it. I hope it's not a wider NCCRS trend with other providers.

Thank you very much for the information.

Yikes, those fees are $$$. That would put me off using NCCRS for Study.com because the cost of transferring the class over is so expensive.

Hi All,

We're sorry for this inconvenience, but we are actively working to create another pathway for transcript requests to TESU. We understand this is not ideal, so we're pursuing an option that would not require you to go through Excelsior or NCCRS for your transcripts.

Thanks,
The Study.com Team

I agree - this is a new thing as far as I can tell, and not a good change.  When you look at the NCCRS website, they do not mention EC at all, so maybe this is just Study.com?  Because when you go to NCCRS's website and click on Students|Steps for Transfer Credit, it says this:

Steps for Transfer Credit

Step One: Check out the CCRS Online Directory  to determine if the organization who sponsored the course or program had the course evaluated for college credit recommendations through NCCRS. If you cannot find the organization in our directory, be sure to look under Former Members (http://www.nationalccrs.org/former-members).
Please note: NCCRS cannot evaluate courses unless contracted to do so by the organization offering the learning; NCCRS does not evaluate individual student transcripts for college credit equivalencies.
Step Two: Contact the registrar at the organization who sponsored the course (or exam) and request that an official transcript be sent to the college or university of your choice. NCCRS does NOT issue transcripts.
Step Three: Upon application to a college/university, meet with an academic advisor and review your transcript. Ask about their PLA (prior learning assessment) process or policies. Tell them about the CCRS Online directory should they need detailed information about the course and credit recommendation.
Step Four: If you encounter problems with your transfer credit request, please submit a Request for Assistance Form so NCCRS can advocate on your behalf.

This is a Study.com thing. Study.com pretty much admitted that they don't have a system to issue transcripts. Davar didn't make students go through this mess.

Thank you, Digi, for the update. I knew TESU wouldn't accept a credit bank transcript. Students who ordered EC transcripts wasted money. All that money Study.com has, and they're too cheap, lazy, or inept to issue transcripts. I thought the laziness didn't go past their poor instructional design.

NCCRS doesn't issue transcripts, so that was never an option.

I agree, this is nuts.  I'm not imagining that this is completely new, am I?  I mean, this is the first I've heard of this, so what were they doing prior to this?

How long have they had NCCRS approval? I've been aware of NCCRS since 2010. At least from that point, NCCRS has never issued transcripts. All that money they paid for evaluations, and Study.com didn't know that they don't issue transcripts? I've also never heard of another organization with NCCRS approvals having to go through Excelsior or any other credit bank. They might recommend collecting credits on a credit bank, but they have their own transcripts to issue. When you want to put credits on a credit bank transcript, the organization sends Excelsior their own transcript.
