Principles of Public Speaking Test Center in NYC
#1
I was wondering if anyone took the Principles of Public Speaking DSST exam in the NYC area. I am having trouble finding a testing center that provides this exam. Preferably if it could be a testing center that is open 7 days a week that would be ideal. Cambridge Business Institute, but they just don't have the facilities for this exam in which a speech is required.

Thanks!

DSST requires that their test centers complete training before they are allowed to administer the Public Speaking exam via their IBT platform (the speech is recorded right on the computer with their special headset with a built-in microphone). You may very well find a DSST test center in your desired area who has not either bothered to complete the testing for the public speaking exam or who has not found a need to do it. If this last part fits the test centers you have called (and they deliver the exams via computer), maybe you can encourage them to take this last step so that they are prepared to help those candidates who might wish to take the public speaking exam.

My preferred test center has a headset with microphone hooked up to the computer but there is no privacy in the room so I would disturb everyone in the room if I attempted to give a 3-5 min speech.

Is Cambridge Business Institute the place in Midtown a few blocks from Penn Station? If so, that's the only place I've taken DSSTs in NY. (walk-in testing is awesome) Have you tried contacting Empire State College or Devry? I took a few exams at a Devry in the Bay Area and I had a great experience. They didn't even charge me anything... probably the only non-profit thing they do!

Yes that's the one! I love that I can just walk in. I will try Empire State and Devry. I called like 15 places with no success, some with no response, so I figured I would stop by here because I was sure one of the hundreds of thousands of us here must have taken the exam in the area. By the way congrats on getting into Indiana University's MBA program, that is an excellent program!

I used University of Phoenix in Jersey City. It is accessible via the PATH. There is a $20 proctering fee. I would give them a call. It was the only test center I could find in the metro area.

Were you able to find another place? I am in the same general area (would like to stay in NJ, but I'll go into the city if I have to) and am looking to take the Public Speaking exam by the end of the week to take advantage of the $12 coupon. I am going to call Devry in North Brunswick later this morning...

The Devry in New Brunswick does not offer Public Speaking. You can take the DSST for Public Speaking at University of Phoenix in Jersey City. It's in the Newport section. There is a $20 fee.

Thanks. I spoke with someone at both places yesterday and scheduled my tests. The person at Devry must have remembered you because she even mentioned going to UoP for the Public Speaking.
