Question about TESU residency waiver
#1
Hi all,

I'm considering getting the Associate's degree in BA at TESU before finishing up the BSBA in General management, purely for employment visa reasons (I'm overseas).

My question is, would I have to pay the $2,000 twice - once for each degree? If so, that's a non-starter :/

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Someone on the board said that the waiver was only good for a year, but I can't find anything on the TESU website that backs that up. I think it would be good to ask advising.

You'll have to contact TESU directly an ask them. Nobody here has paid it (yet) and I don't believe anyone has actually asked them if once you've paid for it, it counts for just one degree, for as many as you earn in a term, or whatever else they might come up with.

If you haven't dealt with them before, be forewarned -- they tend to answer only one question in a ticket, and directly without reading much (if any) of the context. Ask direct questions, and only one per ticket. Avoid "If I....." questions, too much context.

I think a good first question is simply "Will one residency waiver apply to all degrees I earn in a single term?"

That may still be too many words for them though so... be prepared to call. Wink

I am looking forward to the reply the OP gets... Yup, that would be me. I emailed them asking about it soon after they came out with the residency waiver fee as I would like to get the ASBA in Business and the BSBA in General Management. Heard back just now. Here's what they said:

We have solved your issue

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your interest in Thomas Edison State University.

The $2,000 residency waiver fee is charged if you do not meet the 16 credit requirement towards your associate or your bachelors degree.

If you complete your associate degree, and later complete your bachelor degree with us, you will NOT be charged the residency waiver fee twice.

I wonder why they didn't enter in a date range on your question. Maybe I worded mine differently, but mine had an answer of 1 year. See my post below and thread... It won't really matter for me, but for others that may take longer.

Regardless of what you were told, they didn't mention 1 year to him and he has it in writing, so he won't have to pay the Residency fee for both degrees.

At this point, do you? It's because two different people asked a question and two different people answered them. Advising @ TESU is woefully out of touch with itself and the actual school policies. Wink
