TESC ASBA Under 21 Graduation Questions
#1
If one has all the requirements completed (60 hours) for the Associates in Science in Business Administration TESC & wishes to graduate with it only at this point but is 19 (not 21) is that a "do-able or allowable" thing to do? I understand we would need to write & ask for a waver of the 21 year old requirement but I'm thinking that has been used for those closer to 21 & having closer hours to the BSBA degree instead of 19 years old and all the requirements for the Associates. I suppose one would just have to make the appeal to TESC to know for sure but wanted to "ask advice from the wise" first to see what you guys think. Also, would we have more of a chance of the appeal being approved if we waited for 9 months when our daughter is 20 or would it matter? We would like to move on with getting it but whatever is best. She has been very diligent & we would like to see her apply for this ASBA as a stopping point for awhile & see what the future holds for her. She has a lot of interests & this would be a great point to pursue many of them.
Also, at would point would the letter of appeal for the waver be submitted? Do we submit the appeal when we apply to TESC or when we enroll or???
Lastly (I think), should the letter be sent through the Postal Service, e-mail, other?? Who do we send it to or contact?
Thanks for your help!

I think that's certainly an allowable thing to do. As long as you're "enrolled," you are their customer able to do everything from courses to graduation.

I'm 19 and had no trouble getting a waiver. Admissions wanted a letter detailing why I would be a good candidate for TESC (it ended up being one page for me) with attached, scanned copies of all my unofficial transcripts (considered "unofficial" because they were not sent directly to the college from the test site). A reply email allowing me to apply came shortly thereafter (within a day or two).

The only thing that is really going to help with the waiver is the amount of credits--I had 72 at the time which is plenty to validate an ability to participate in college-level work. Waiting nine months isn't really going to change much--either way she's under 21. I'd say don't wait! Jump on it. Because once you start dealing with TESC, you have to slow down a bit to their schedule (no longer running your show by yourself). I wish I would have applied earlier!

So if you want to shoot an email explaining your situation, they'll help you. Or if you want to go ahead and explain the situation--AND attach a letter/scanned copies of all her transcripts (I only attached college scores, no highschool), then I'd say go for it. You have nothing to lose and I would feel comfortable saying you're certain to get in. Sent mine to admissions@tesc.edu

They never actually sent me a "waiver," they just replied saying: "This is sufficient, thank you! Please fill out our online application." That's it. So I applied, paid DSST and CLEP $20 to send in my transcripts, meanwhile got an acceptance letter via email. I'm now waiting on an "evaluation" to figure out where all the credits fit.

Biggest thing for you guys is to check graduation dates if she has any courses to finish. Good luck! This is all from my personal experience, lemme know if you have other questions!

I asked for an age waiver at 16 w/ 84 credits. So I don't think you would have a problem. I asked for the waiver through email and pretty much did the same thing MelB8tz did. Except I applied right after I asked for the waiver. They didn't even tell me I was approved. I called them asking about it and they said I was approved three days earlier. Apparently I was supposed to check MyEdison but nobody told me that.

Just to re-affirm what's already been said...

I'm 20 years old and was just accepted last week, with only 27 credits to my name. I submitted my application first, and then got an email from the Director of Admissions asking that I submit the letter that's already been mentioned here. Mine also turned out to be about a page in length. I received an acceptance email within a week of submitting the letter. I was a little concerned, but there are lots of people who have done this before, so that distilled my worry.

So I'd agree: Apply for admissions, submit the letter, and your daughter will almost definitely be accepted. I have yet to hear of anyone who was turned away.

I sent a brief letter to the Director of Admissions through the post office (and included my email address). The Director emailed me and told me to go ahead and apply for admission, even though I was only 20.

Thanks so much for your help! I guess it would be impossible for her to graduate in December since the December deadline is October 1st & since the process takes so much time wouldn't it?

I think it is. Depending on the degree. Look at TESC's schedule and start from classes ending BY september/october, and back up from there. Each quarter is about 3 months, and I've been able to knock out about 15 credits each quarter (5 classes at a time would be a lot, so for me, 3 classes and 2 TECEPs each quarter).

That's 30 credits in 6 months for me. You can only attempt 36 in a year with TESC anyway.

But what, that puts you at starting courses in april? The deadline to register is coming up, if you want to try. I hauled rear to try and graduate by September--which has a June deadline, geezle peat (or however you spell that saying). I think I might barely make it, my last courses end in may (starting this week)
