Title says it all; just registered for the April course.
As I am sure a lot of people on this wonderful board know, the required textbooks are:
- Writing the winning thesis or dissertation: A step-by-step guide (3rd ed.)
- Keys for writers (7th ed.)
After reviewing the syllabus, it doesn't look like there are any assignments from within the texts. I am assuming that open source material available online can be used to assist me with the capstone paper. Is this accurate?
Thank you DegreeForum!

I flipped through "Writing the winning..." a few times but did not need it.
The "Keys for Writers" was a huge help to me- and continues to be with all the papers we are writing in this household (lists MLA and APA formatting with plenty of examples). I suppose you could find the same information online, but I purchased a cheap copy and having it in front of me and readily available was a necessity for me.
CLEP's and DSST's passed: Fund. of Counseling, Tech Writing, Here's to your Health, Intro to Computers, Analyzing and Interpreting Lit, Human Growth and Devel, Intro to Soc., Crim Just, Law Enforcement, Env. and Humanity, Astronomy.
Completed 2 PLA's through LearningCounts.org.
Completed Capstone at TESC.

Thank you very much! I have a copy of Keys for Writers, so I should be set.

If you are doing a research paper and not a project, be prepared to order the "Winning...." textbook with expedited delivery. You will have reading assignments that are directed to the text. While I don't think this book is very good or clear, IMHO without it I don't see how in a guided study you will ever comprehend what a research paper is and what format and jargon are expected. Two pieces of advice: 1) Keep your topic as narrow as possible, and 2) the key to understanding the whole thing is the Research of the Literature. Hopefully here you will find papers from others that make the whole objective clear. Good luck.

The first one is useful. The second is just referred to several times to know how to cite and that sort of thing. I wouldn't buy that one; you can do just as well with online resources like the Purdue OWL.
