TESC Math and Natural Science requirement
#1
Hey guys, ive applied to tesc for the bachelor of applied science in flight technology, the credit distribution on the website says 21 hours of math and natural science broken down like this

College Algebra or above
(6)
Statistics
(3)
General Physics
(6)
Meteorology
(3)
Computer Requirement
(3)

My question is I already have college algebra (3) meteorology (3) computer (3) and I also have an aerodynamics (3) that I HOPE will be counted toward my math and natural science req, does this breakdown mean I have to take physics (6)or just a math or natural science? and what is the easiest way to test out of my remaining 9 credits required?

Thanks for all of your help, this forum is amazing!!

I haven't looked myself but if it states that you need those courses then your aerodynamics will go to a different area and you will have to do 06 credit hours in physics, 03 more credits in a college algebra or above, and statistics. If it doesn't state those courses specifically then you could apply all of your math and natural sciences there but it seems those specific courses are required.

When there are specific requirements you can substitute other courses in. Physics is required in the majority (if not all) of the applied science degrees.

Edit: Alright, I just got home to look and the ones that are specific such as physics, statistics, meteorology are required courses so you will have to do 2 semesters/tests of physics, 1 class/test/aleks of statistics, & 1 more class of college algebra or above.

Hi, your area of study pinged my interest; pilot, cool Smile After looking at the the TESC page, BSAST in Aviation Flight Technology Credit Distribution you really do appear to be close to completing all requirements, as you've already worked out. Fantastic for you, not a little envious here Smile

You probably already know the answer to your question; it depends whether TESC evaluates Aerodynamics as a physics or maths course, or neither. I'm guessing that the 'dynamics' bit is probably not so much pure theory and more applied, so closer to an engineering qualification? Too much speculation so looking at the certain options:

-----------------------
Physics (6)
The safest exam option would be to do UExcel Physics for the 6 Physics credits and be sure to tick that box.

Maths (3)
For the additional 3 credits in Maths you could do the CLEP - Precalculus or an equivalent ALEKS - Precalculus course..

Stats (3)
For the 3 credits in Stats there are the exams DSST - Principles of Statistics or UExcel - Statistics or any of the three (independent study) ALEKS Stats courses, e.g. ALEKS - Intro to Stats.

-----------------------

This approach will tick the boxes but finding out where TESC sits with respect to the Aerodynamics credits might give you more options. e.g. get another 3 credits of Physics with DSST - Principles of Physics I or Astronomy.

Good luck and let us know how it develops Smile

irnbru I am really impressed with your math credits and the speed of your ALEKS work. What degree are you working towards?

puckpilot6 knowing TESC they will probably make you take Physics, but considering your other courses I would bet you can pass the Uexcel Physics without too much trouble, just get someone at TESC to aprove it for your degrre plan first.

thank you all so much, I've been flying for 12 yrs and am not really nervous about anything EXCEPT physics for some reason, is Uexcel the best test out there for physics, and is there a good test prep anyone knows of to help me out!!

Hi Linda, looking to shoot for an AA in Liberal Arts first. Do you have a link to a breakdown of which exams/courses you did to satisfy the requirements for your BA in Natural Sciences/Mathematics, if it was with TESC, please?

I had planned to take Physics and Calculus for my degree, but I chickened out. I would still like to take them someday. For now I am happy to be done and I will take a little time off (about 2 weeks) before I start attacking the next level. I did collect a lot of Physics books like Cliff notes and REA's Physics essentials I would guess used books would be fine to study. There are plenty of used text out there.

Good Luck
