TESC Psych Plan for DH - Help
#1
DH has taken a few random credits, with 12 B&M credits and 12 testing credits. He has asked for my help with a degree plan and instead of studying for my labor relations test, I've spent the past two hours trying to put something together for him. I have searched many MANY posts trying to find a psych plan that would work for him and haven't found a match.

ANY help and/or comments would be very appreciated as I am struggling not knowing where to find all of TESC's resources and I'm sure my COSC lists aren't totally helpful.

General Education:

A. English Composition - Need 6
English Composition I (B&M) 3
CLEP - English Composition with essay 6

B: Humanities - Need 12
Music Appreciation (B&M) 3
CLEP Humanities 6
CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature 6

C: Social Sciences
CLEP American Govt 3
West Civ I (B&M) 3
Macroecon - Straighterline 3
CLEP Intro To Sociology 3

D: Mathematics Need 3
ALEKS Intermediate Algebra 3

E: Natural Sciences Need: 9
Environment & Humanity 3
Intro To Computing 3
Astronomy 3

F: General Ed Electives: Need 18
Technical Writing 3
Public Speaking 3
Management Info Systems 3 Is this General ed?
6 extra credits from the English Comp and Humanities tests
what would be another good addition here? need 3 more credits.

Area of Study
A. General Psych II (B&M) 3
B. Experimental Psych ?? What can he do here?
C. Statistics - ALEKS Stats 3
D. Psych Electives Need 24 - 18 @ UL
DSST Substance Abuse 3
ECE Social Psych 3
ECE Psych of Adulthood & Aging 3
ECE Abnormal Psych 3
ECE Methods of Research in Psych 3
DSST Fundamentals of Counseling 3
DSST Organizational Behavior 3 Is this considered psych and is it UL at TESC?
CLEP Human Growth and Development 3
General Psych I (B&M) 3

Free Electives: Need 27
Here's to your Health 3
FEMA 18
Accounting I Straighterline 3
Accounting II Straighterline 3

So as you can see, I'm really stuck in a couple of areas - first of all what the heck does TESC consider "general ed" versus "general electives" and yikes!! SO many psych tests - did I get enough UL?

Thanks!!!

ECE Research Methods fills the slot for "Experimental Psych" in the Area of Study course requirements , as far as I know. Org Behavior transcribes as PSY 361 according to the TESC website. He can also use Clep Intro to Educational Psych transcribed as PSY230 at TESC.

Cool tell him good luck and get to studying for me. I love to see more working adults going to tesc etc. I also have an interest in psychology and if they didn't frown on dual majors so much i might have done one. But then I'm into history and other subjects too. So i need to stop and do a masters or three.

That's a lot of "free electives" ... what's the difference between a free elective and a general elective? A free elective can be any extra credits whereas a gen ed elective has to be from the gen ed subjects?

Thanks Ryoder - I hope he sticks to it. In spite of a very high IQ, he's always hated school. However, he's worked his way up to a good place in his career and at this point everyone around him has graduate-level education. With his experience, he should be able to get a good job if something ever were to happen, but you know how that can be when you don't have the piece of paper. He's done a few tests with me and done well, so hope he can do this.

MA2 - that's what I was unclear on. I was trying to go through the TESC website last night to find a list of what was considered "general ed." I don't know if I was tired or the TESC site was difficult to navigate, but I didn't see it. I'll go back and look. I was really hoping that business and/or computers would be considered general ed. I think that he could very easily do the chain of business "buddy" tests we were talking about in the other thread.

I hope you are getting enough time to study; I know creating degree plans can be very distracting and time-consuming.

This excellent post created by Jennifer (Cookderosa) should answer some of your electives questions. As you know, she is our resident expert and she did earn a degree from TESC.

Also, I don't know if any of the degree requirements changed lately, but RMRoberts was able to complete this degree through testing mostly.

She may not have followed this plan exactly, but if you can find her path, it should help.

YAY!!! Jennifer's post is totally helpful. It's good because my question was answered, but I'm bummed out that the business tests don't fall under general ed. It's ok - DH would pass those easily, but they would also bore him, so I guess it's not a huge problem.

I remember when RMRoberts was about to finish her degree, she had all of her credits listed in her signature. I searched her name and saw that she had changed her signature line. Darn it! I really hope that the TESC advisors can point him in the right direction. I think we have a pretty decent start. Just waiting for a tax refund to have him go ahead and pay the enrollment fee. Then he'll actually get to speak with an advisor.

Thanks everyone!!

P.S. Lol.. nope not getting enough study time. Labor Relations is not exactly interesting stuff, so I keep getting distracted. Wink
