TESC Registration/Evaluation Accuracy Question
#1
Hi,

Has anyone ever had the computer place a course in the wrong section of your evaluation when you registered? My daughter needs one upper level communications course to graduate. She registered for MAR-441 Marketing with Digital and Social Media and it was placed in her area of study. She's happy but I'm afraid to trust it for several reasons. One because it is a marking course, two because social media is not specifically listed as accepted electives, and three because this is TESC.

I would tell her to submit a ticket except for the fact that the last 5 times she did that, they gave her wrong information or never got back to her. Unfortunately, she has not had a positive experience with contacting the registrar's office either. She did receive one helpful response out of three issues. One of the other times she was told they would not answer her question and the other time she was given wrong information. The reason she needs this course is because last month they decided that two upper level courses that they planned on her evaluation were no longer upper level.

I figured the only way to guarantee that a course would be accepted as upper level would be to take it from them directly but I'm very concerned that I will wind up having to pay another $3,000 enrollment fee if they decide it doesn't count when she applies for graduation. I am already going to have to pay the three months of extension fees because we thought she was done and they decided she was not at the last minute. Unfortunately, she has test anxiety so taking a test to finish quicker isn't an option. I'm hoping to hear that their computer system is more reliable than the word of their staff.

Thanks,
Danielle

I know for sure one marketing course counts toward the communications degree, but it's called Marketing Communications. You should definitely ask. Maybe you can contact the dean of the Heavin School of Arts and Sciences.

I didn't remember there being a Marketing Communications course so I went to the site and looked but I couldn't find it. Is it possible you were thinking of the Managerial Communications course? Do you know how to get in contact with the dean? Thanks for taking the time to help!

If the most recent evaluation places the course in the area of study, that was done by the registrar. The registrar has the final word on where courses fall in your evaluation, how outside credits are transcribed, etc.

If the course in question was added to the evaluation where you want it, I see no reason to submit a ticket to question that.

I think it's only available as a TECEP.

No one can argue with the dean or assistant dean. Even the registrar would have to change their policy based on what the dean wants. If you get it in writing (email), then they can't argue about it when they do your audit for graduation.

I'm helping my wife with her BA in Communications, what two courses did they change? Were they Straighterline?

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

I can't answer about this specific course, but I will tell you for SURE that TESC makes mistakes, and you are 100% on the ball to double check way before this comes back to bite her. A while back here, one of the members had a course "accidently" placed in one area (that was wrong) but thought he was getting away with something. Of course, during his transcript review for graduation they made the correction and he had to take the right course. Yes, TESC makes mistakes. You have to be 1 step ahead of them most of the time! Good job Momma Smile

I'm helping a friend with a communications degree. Would you be willing to post your daughters degree plan?

Good luck with TESC! I'm trying to get everything in order also--stressful! I only have one more test.

TESC change their policy last year, without warning, on giving UL credits to CC courses. No transfer courses from 2-year colleges will be granted UL credit.
