TESC Two Areas of Study... BSBA GenMan & CIS?
#1
As I've been pursuing job opportunities at the same time I'm working on my degree, I've been asked about pursuing a CIS as well or instead of a GenMan degree. I looked into it, and based on how I'm reading TESC's policy, it looks like I could pursue a second area of study on the same bachelor's, and it would require at least 9 unique credits from the 18 credit Area of Study, and up to 9 AoS credit hours could overlap.

This is extremely tempting to me, as it would open up additional avenues to pursue, and CIS would look better on my resume to some of the companies I'm applying to. Does anyone know if I'm reading this correctly? Because if so, I'm thinking of pursuing it, as it would only add nine to twelve credits to my requirements, and I would still be able to pursue a separate BA in History in the future.

Also, does anyone know how this would be annotated on the degree, or at least where I could find the answer? Mainly, I'm wondering if it would be a combined BSBA in GenMan and CIS or would they be listed as separate BSBA degrees? The 25 Jun 2014 article here reads like it would be separate, but the Award of Degrees page doesn't mention how it would be annotated.

Honestly, I don't see the point in getting the BSBA in Gen Man and CIS. It would be like getting a BA in Social Science and Psychology or a BA in Natural Science and Biology. Why would you need the more general degree when you have a more focused degree that is more marketable? The BSBA in CIS is already a business degree with a bunch of required business courses in the business core. The general management part would just be filler. Why waste your time and money on UL accounting, finance, and/or marketing tests/courses you don't need?

The reasoning behind the Gen Man degree is that some of the companies I've talked to said they like to see management degrees (mostly in relation to management positions, of course), while the companies who want to see the CIS are mostly software specialist/support/training positions working with contractors for DOD/DHS. And looking at the expected cost, if what I've worked out is correct, I'd have six courses/18 credit hours that would not overlap to accomplish beyond the basic requirements for a BSBA outside the AoS. The extra thousand dollars or so I'd have to pay out of pocket (assuming none of those courses/exams are paid for by the GI Bill) seems worth the little bit of extra flexibility in job options. If it were to require much more than that, I'd probably pass on it, but as at least some of those would be TECEPs, I'm likely overestimating what my personal outlay would be.

Your degree won't be in CIS or General Management. You will have a Bachelor of Science with a major in Business Administration. The CIS and General Management parts are the equivalent of concentrations.

Ah, thank you for that. In that case, I guess CIS would probably make more sense than Gen Man. Thank you all for the help, I'll have to contact the companies I was talking to before and confirm that a Business Administration major with CIS concentration would be fine. Thank you again.
