TESC's BSBA is still a great option because no courses have to be taken at TESC, and it can be completed for under $4,000.

Hey Sanantone, Thanks. BSBA is a great degree, the problem for is I'm terrible in Math and you need pre-cal. I can't remember Algebra! Also, I'm taking Capstone right now as we speak. It was going to be my last class until now. I was planning on enrolling next week, I have already been admitted and transferred my credits for a BA in Liberal Studies. I have 100 credit hours, 3 soon to be for Capstone, and 17 from FEMA that I have already completed. I will call in the morning. If not, I will take 3 CLEPs for 18 credits (assuming they don't drop CLEP).
It's not that they dropped FEMA, it's that they gave no warning!! At least say, any FEMA AFTER March 5th will not be accepted. Or, allow me 2-3 days to transfer my credits.

I don't know about EC, but at COSC and TESC, you only need College Algebra. TESC dropped the pre-cal requirement awhile back.

Hey Nevados37,
I was originally planning to take all of my electives as FEMA courses, but once I started taking Straighterline courses I found the experience so pleasant that I was then going to take all of my electives as Straighterline courses, but got talked out of it by others on this forum. I needed 19 credits of electives. I decided to take three 3-credit Straighterline courses (thankfully) and 10 FEMAs. Then I got a FEMA transcript with CEUs that added up to 9.9 when I needed 10 credits, so just to be on the safe side before my Capstone started last month I decided to take one more FEMA, making 11 in all. As it turned out, I was told by a couple of different advisers that I didn't need that extra FEMA course, but I wasn't taking any chances.
TESC received both of my FEMA transcripts last month, so from what I can gather those credits should still be accepted. Like you, I intend to call TESC tomorrow (my, won't THEIR phone lines be jammed?), however, I suppose in the worst case scenario I will have to take four more Straighterline courses. What really bites about that is that Straighterline is moving toward having closed book finals for all their courses. I know that isn't the case for all of them yet, but if TESC won't give me credit I will need to wait until I am done with the Capstone course to take those extra courses, and by then there will probably be more courses with closed book finals that would have been open book had I taken them in January as I had originally planned. Reading the email from TESC again, it really does seem like they should honor those FEMA credits for me. I guess I will know more tomorrow.

Yeah, I have to agree with the first replyâ¦what prompted this decision? Are the other 2 of the Big 3 going to dump FEMA credits too? I have to tell ya, if I had pending FEMA credits I would RUSH get them credited to my transcript of I was at COSC or EC! If anyone finds out WHY TESC dumped FEMA, that would be valuable information.
ironheadjack Wrote:My thoughts exactly. TESC has always been the more popular choice of the Big3, but getting rid of the FEMA option might push people away.
But who knows what will happen.... all I do know is me and corpsole are graduating in 2 days.cheersmate

I do know that TESC and COSC evaluated these differently. COSC goes by the FCC evaluation.
Fingers crossed this doesn't affect other schools.

They will accept college math, but a student still has to have College Algebra.
" Mathematics (3 credits)
Students will have an understanding of mathematics beyond the entry-level requirements for college.
Examples: College-level Algebra or higher, Statistics."
COSC Student Catalog
The CLEP College Mathematics exam would count as 6 credits in liberal arts electives. An easy option for someone trying to get a BA instead of BS.

Are you sure? I think your first sentence, and the implication CLEP College Mathematics would go to electives but not a gen ed requirement, are mistaken. CLEP College Mathematics is beyond the entry-level requirements for college. Charter Oak's Master Exam List [pdf] indicates that CLEP College Mathematics does meet the Mathematics general education requirement ("q.") Charter Oak's search tool for COSC courses that meet their gen ed requirements shows that their own MAT 101 Contemporary Mathematics (3 sh, similar in content to the 6 sh CLEP College Math) will also meet the Mathematics gen ed requirement.
