I know how hard it is to deal with a major policy change mid-degree. I suspect it is an accreditation or ACE issue, too.

That can be done with the Liberal Studies degree at Excelsior. It is extremely flexible. You can not create a major that isn't already offered, but you can work with your advisor to create 1 or 2 Areas of Focus (minors) within the degree.

Wow, I wonder precipitated this. At any rate, it seems like a good time to remind everyone about the free credits available from TEEX (6) and NFA (3). Also, Saylor has credits available for the ProctorU fee.

I have also been hearing that if you took them before March 5 and sent in the transcripts before June 30, the FEMA credits would be accepted. Can anyone confirm/deny?

Hi There,
Like Nevados37 I took all my FEMA credits this past January and requested transcripts immediately. TESC received all my FEMA transcripts last month, thankfully (though from what the email says as long as the credits were already taken before March 5th you have until June 30th to send in the transcripts). I did confirm on the phone with a TESC adviser that those credits should stand--pending my academic re-evaluation (that I was informed was going on now). Do you think they are re-evaluating everyone's academic evaluations because of this new policy? I forgot to ask about that.
This whole thing sort of reminds me of Indiana Jones when he removes the gold skull and that huge ball starts rolling behind him. I'm so glad that at least at this point anyway (pending academic re-evaluation) it at least appears that I got credit for all the FEMA courses I took, and Straighterline open book finals before a) they were gone, and b) the walls caved in (well, not exactly on that last one ;-). Talk about a run for your life sort of experience! Get 'em before they're gone!

Yesterday they sent me an email suggesting I send my FEMA credits to Frederick CC, then back to TESC. Then today I got this:
My apologies for misinforming you earlier, but our College's official position is that we not comment on or recommend students use Frederick Community College for transfer credits. Again, my apologies for any misunderstanding. Please do make an appointment with academic advising
Not a big deal, it was just a side project, but the only reason I enrolled at TESC was to use FEMA credits for the 15 allowed in the Homeland Security and Emergency Prepardness program. But I never emailed them officially about this plan, so im out of luck.

They basically told me I could try to petition it, but chances are it wouldn't work, or they could refund me my application fee. I am going to really look at Excelsior and COSC again, but the LDAS or Human Services degree through TESC was looking so promising. I don't remember seeing any sort of "build your own program" at Excelsior or COSC.
I am also sort of wondering if these could be "washed" through Frederick's CC still. If anyone finds out, please post!

OK, so daughter is working on AA with COSC, then to transfer to BA in English at TESC. She already finished the Cornerstone for the AA at COSC. She has 14 FEMAs that she was going to use as electives at TESC. Is it possible for me to pay to credit bank them with TESC now and have them count towards the BA at TESC next year? If she stays with COSC I'll have to fork over another $1,000 for another Cornerstone for the BA at COSC. What would you do? For a sliver of a moment I was going to have her do the longer paper and claim the degree plan for the BA with COSC, but she has a full schedule with her high school classes, so I went for the shorter paper since we planned on TESC. Now I'm kicking myself. Would TESC credit banking salvage the credits for later use? It costs $ but it would be cheaper than another COSC Cornerstone. Thoughts?

I have not yet applied, enrolled, or had an academic evaluation with TESC. But I'm wondering if I can still submit my FEMA transcript? I'm planning on applying later this year. This whole situation is a little confusing.
