TESU - BA in Music - Time and Money
#1
Howdy! Thank you in advance! I've been lurking here quite a while but I need some help gameplanning:
TESU has a BA of Music and I'm trying to complete it in the most cost effective way but would love to hear if there are those out there with ideas.

I only need 23 Credit Hours and I had it all planned out (see below) but then I was told about the $2500 Residence Waiver Fee from TESU... so thats what got me searching. Is there a way to do this better?

Well the residency waiver is only $2000, so you've saved $500 right there. Smile The TES100 cornerstone costs $300 but you can get it waived either by transferring in 104 credits before you enroll, or by taking courses at Study.com and getting their affiliate pricing. If you do the affiliate pricing you get $200 off the residency waiver and 5% off the tuition for the $1500 Capstone in addition to waiving the cornerstone.

Congrats - you are soooo close! I think you have a good plan. The residency waiver is required no matter what your degree is unless you take classes at TESU (which will be significantly more expensive than a residency waiver fee). I was going to suggest the study.com affiliate membership too. One month cuts your cost on tuition for the capstone, the residency waiver and cuts out the cornerstone completely. Are you considering changing schools? I'm not familiar enough with other school's music programs to know if all your classes would transfer in or not. I also don't know if they have residency waiver fees. Maybe someone else could chime in on that.

No not really, I haven't found very many schools at all who even have an online music degree.
Plus, I'm sure I wouldn't be this close to completion at any other schools.

So with the Study.com idea. Would it be better for me to take the missing gen ed classes there? Since I will be a member anyways?
I went with Saylor because they are going to be only the cost of doing the ProctorU fee.

If your goal is to save money, you might want to switch back to Saylor after your month with Study.com is up (Study.com is normally $200/month for two exam attempts each month, so $25/exam at Saylor is still better of course). Or go for the 3 months Guardian Scholarship and see if you can get 6 courses free.

Also:

That's going to be a very expensive way to fulfill that option.

Consider something cheaper like:

CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature, DSST Introduction to World Religions, UExcel Research Methods in Psychology, Davar InfoLit, Straighterline Introduction to Religion
Northwestern California University School of Law
JD Law, 2027 (in progress, currently 2L)

Georgia Tech
MS Cybersecurity (Policy), 2021

Thomas Edison State University
BA Computer Science, 2023
BA Psychology, 2016
AS Business Administration, 2023
Certificate in Operations Management, 2023
Certificate in Computer Information Systems, 2023

Western Governors University
BS IT Security, 2018

Chaffey College

CLEP: $80 + your local proctor center's fee
DSST: $80 + your local proctor center's fee
UExcel: $110 + your local proctor center's fee
Davar: $80 + $15 RPnow online proctor (or $25 if you prefer ProctorU online)
SL: $100 if you use a course coupon, $150 without. Both include proctoring.

The A&I clep is worth 6cr at TESU, so if you need the extra credit you might get more bang for your buck out of them (though looking at your plan, looks like you have all of your gen ed electives and free electives full, so I'm not sure if you'd need them). otherwise looks like Davar is cheaper, unless your local in-person proctor site can beat $15.

here's another thing I noticed

Quote:Ethics: 3
- [ ] 3 credits needed - ENVS203: Environmental Ethics- 3 (Saylor)

You can take a free 2cr course to fulfill this. You'll have to make up that 1cr in your general ed electives (so maybe that CLEP A&I can help there)...

312N-H Ethics and the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct (2 credits) - an upper level ethics/philosophy course that meet's TESU's General Education "ethics" requirement

To signup, use the following link: Preserve the trust on which insurance transactions are based with an understanding of ethics

Select the FREE option. You should not do the $5 option. The paid option is for "Continuing Education credit," which is different than college credit. The free version is ACE approved for college credit.

Thanks for this. I just completed it today. I'm not sure how long it will take for ACE to receive the results, but I also took the 'Developing a team' free class from Sophia (suggested by the wikia) for an extra credit. I hope this will work.

Has anyone else had success with the other 'free' courses listed on the wikia? Do they really transfer?

Sophia will count as a free elective, unfortunately not a general ed elective.

yes, all of those listed on the wikia really transfer (except TESU doesn't accept FEMA IS, as noted on the wikia page).

Many of us have successfully done this, myself included. I used the ethics course to fulfil my ethics gen ed requirement, i had TEEX and NFA in my free electives that all transferred in just fine. The free Sophia course was not around when i got my BA, but it will transfer just as easy as well.
