TESU BSBA Degree Plan - Sophia Heavy
#1
Hello everyone, I spent a few days trying to piece together a degree plan so I know what classes to take, etc. Can someone please review this and provide feedback on my plan?

Providers:
81 Credits from Sophia
9 Credits from InstantCert
24 Credits from Study.com

Cost:
Sophia: $0 (gifted code)
InstantCert: $108 (buying 6 month plan)
Study.com: $800 (4 months minimum)

TESU will cost around 5 grand

My Goal:
I want to do the minimum amount of classes needed at TESU and get the degree as fast as humanly possible, while understanding the content.

If it is possible I would love to drop some Study.com classes and use InstantCert or Sophia over it. I am considering dropping my last study.com Business 107: Organizational Behavior and swap it out with Introduction to Entrepreneurship from InstantCert. I believe I'm stuck with Study.com for Upper Levels. Sophia's learning platform really speaks to me and I like it a lot. I heard InstantCert will be an easy adjustment for me.

I tried to choose the quickest upper level classes. If anyone has alternative recommendations please let me know. I don't have a PMP, but I heard those transfer easily. I do hold a DocuSign CLM, DocuSign eSignature, Ritz Carlton Leadership Certificate, University of London Leadership Certificate, and I hold an LGARA (Government Archivist license). None of these seem to count for professional credit sadly. I am eligible to sit for the CRA/CRM and could probably pass it without studying but they don't accept that either.

I have attached my (mostly) Sophia-based evaluation for a BSBA GM so you can see where things fall.

Some things to note:
  • I have not finished English Comp II at Sophia
  • Nor Business Law.
  • Instead of Sophia's Public Speaking, I have a course from SDC (Presentational Speaking) taking that slot
  • Information Literacy from SDC is taking a GE elective slot
  • I have the old ethics course from The Institutes for 2 credits. Without that and the medical terminology TECEP, Conflict Resolution would most likely move up to section 4 electives. Probably.
  • Current The Institutes ethics course could be a way to fill in electives holes.
  • As stated in this thread https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...ia-Courses ICC's managerial accounting should actually come in as an UL course. You might want to do managerial accounting elsewhere and let ICC's course fill an UL requirement.
Any reason why you're not using any Davar courses? If you like the SDC format, you could use SDC resources to help study topics covered by Davar, lowering your costs even further. That is, some classes may only be at SDC while others are at both SDC and Davar. Use your membership for the former to study for the latter. This lets you "bypass" SDC's 5 exams per month rule (because you're taking Davar exams instead of SDC exams). Business courses at Davar are $50 (at 2 per month) each + $15 proctoring for RPNow or $25 for ProctorU.

Hey Rachel83az! Thank you! I didn't know Davar existed. I'll check them out now to let me do this! Big Grin

So, basically if I do Managerial Accounting elsewhere, and do it again through InstantCert, basically same class twice, but one for LL and UL?

I really appreciate your attachment to help me. I tried digging through the forums and followed how people said things transferred for TESU. I low key am thinking of Excelsior as well. I just want that degree checkbox for my resume basically, it's holding me back significantly for promotions because I don't have a BA or BS. The Davar TESU equivelent page is amazing. Now I'm considering just doing Davar right after Sophia.org. A lot of interesting topics and most of it is UL (wow!).

With Davar I can probably skip out on Study.com entirely and lower my costs drastically.

Edit: Thank you! I managed to plug in Davar to take every study.com course off except for 1 (which is way cheaper). Plus Davar has a ton of study material on InstantCert, Quizlet, and themselves.

The only course I need now is "Business in Society or International Management" without Study.com if at all possible. If I can find a low cost alternative for it it'd be amazing :O

Just a note and an FYI, I usually recommend sticking with ACE providers first before looking at NCCRS credits. Study.com courses are ACE while Davar courses have NCCRS - both have recommendation for credit systems but ACE has a registry to bank your credits, where as NCCRS doesn't, it's left with the provider, so if that provider goes - so does your transcripts...

Having said that, you may also want to look at overall value or return of investment, not just cost/ease/speed. For example, Study.com courses are mainly quizzes, assignments, final exam. The final exam is weighted lesser, such as 33% of the final grade. Where as some Davar courses are all on the one exam and you have to get 70% or higher to get the credit.

I think the best way to go about this is to look at the courses, content, and also the proctoring to see which course is better for you, as some courses would be "cheaper/easier/faster" or a mix of those. Nowadays I usually recommend the Sophia.org and Study.com combination over anything else, except of course, if there's an option that maybe better for the ROI/Value.

Cost wise, the two are actually not too different, depending on the amount of courses you take. Let's take 5 courses for example, if you're doing 5 at Study.com, it's $199/month membership for 2 exams, plus 3 extra exams at $70 each nets $410 At Davar, if you're NOT taking business courses, they're $70 each plus $15 proctoring, it's $85 x 5 which is $425. But, if you're taking all Business courses, you will be paying $99+30 for two business courses. If you take 5, it'll be 260+85 = $345.

Just FYI, only SOME SDC courses are ACE while others are (I guess) NCCRS? At least, TESU takes said courses even though they're not in the ACE registry. I've taken 2 SDC courses. One is on my ACE transcript, the other is not - because it's not in the registry. I don't feel like looking up every SDC business course to see what is and is not there.

But the disappearance thing is only really a concern, IMO, if you're going to keep learning indefinitely. Some people just want a basic degree and don't care about a graduate degree.

Thank you everyone for your feedback! I greatly appreciate it. I'm adjusting my spreadsheet now with some changes, including the new InstantCert class. I am on the fence of DAVAR/Study.com. But I can seemingly find good content on quizlet. I learn very well through flashcards Big Grin So I'd only need Study.com or Davar for the 12 ULs :O

No, there are several degrees you can get with Sophia credits. If you start your own thread, people can help you design a degree plan that works for you.

Introduction to Business can't be used in the AOS of the BSBA, it's a Free Elective. I think Conflict Resolution can't be used either, it would go in GE Electives. But, Developing Effective Teams CAN be used in the MAN AOS, so you could move that there and be fine. You can only use 2 LL courses in the AOS, so this actually works better since you get another GE.

Business 324: Managerial Communication should be used as an UL AOS course rather than for the core; you should use BUS 113: Business Communication for the core.

So if you take these into account, your plan is fine. You don't need to change it at all if you don't want to (to match rachel83az).
