TESU Computer Information Systems AOS Electives
#1
Hi All,

I am working on my CIS degree at TESU and I'm wondering what are the easiest courses to take and transfer to TESU in the area of study electives.

Currently on my list, I have Computer Communications, Software Engineering, and Intro to C.S. II, all from Saylor.  I also have Digital Marketing from Study.com.  Are there any easier electives to take?

Link to the requirements: https://www.tesu.edu/business/bsba/compu...on-systems

Thanks,

Cameron

You can download the newest copy of dfrecore's template if you can find a recent thread. But I have a similar one, it's not as updated. See the Beginners Guide here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid248050

I recall there being two new courses from Study.com
1) Database Management
2) System Analysis and Design
These can take the place of any two below

CIS Area of Specialization - $494
(Fee's range as some may want to take extra Saylor courses, *MIS/SIT are transferred into TESU as the same course)
18 credits required, minimum of 12 upper-level credits.

Straighterline Introduction to Programming in C++ - $99
CSU Global CBE for Information Systems Analysis and Design (UL, CIS-320) - $250
*Saylor Management Information Systems (UL) - $25
*Saylor Strategic Information Technology (UL) - $25
*Saylor Computer Communications and Networking (UL, may duplicate TECEP) - $25
Saylor Software Engineering (UL, get pre-approval) - $25
Study.com Digital Marketing & Advertising (UL) - $70
TECEP - Networking Technology (UL) - $117
TEEX Cybersecurity for Business & IT Professionals (4 UL free credits) - FREE
In Progress: Walden MBA | TESU BA Biology & Computer Science
Graduate Certificate: Global Management & Entrepreneurship, ASU (Freebie)

Completed: TESU ASNSM Biology, BSBA (ACBSP Accredited 2017)
Universidad Isabel I: ENEB MBA, Big Data & BI, Digital Marketing & E-Commerce
Certs: 6Sigma/Lean/Scrum, ITIL | Cisco/CompTIA/MTA | Coursera/Edx/Udacity

I suspect those Saylor courses aren't UL at TESU anymore. As of the most recent re-evaluations, none of them are ACE or NCCRS recommended for UL credit.

As an alternative, the Computer Communications & Networking course is recommended for TECEP study though, so one could use the Saylor course to study and then take the TECEP for UL credit.

The TEEX courses are confirmed to no longer come in as UL credit at TESU now.

As for CIS AOS options, the best sources of UL credits now are:
  • Study.com CS 302 Systems Analysis & Design or CSU-Global CBE: Information Systems & Design (both will fulfill Systems Analysis requirement)
  • Study.com CS 303 Database Management or CSU-Global CBE: Information Systems Design & Management
  • Study.com BUS 309 Digital Marketing & Advertising
  • CSU-Global CBE: Cloud Computing & Big Data
  • CSU-Global CBE: Intermediate Networking
  • DSST Management Information Systems
  • DSST Fundamentals of Cybersecurity
And of course, taking UL CS classes at your local university.
Working on: Debating whether I want to pursue a doctoral program or maybe another master's degree in 2022-23

Complete:
MBA (IT Management), 2019, Western Governors University
BSBA (Computer Information Systems), 2019, Thomas Edison State University
ASNSM (Computer Science), 2019, Thomas Edison State University

Unfortunately, DSST Management Information Systems no longer transfers in to TESU as an upper level credit. It's now lower level, as I found out just a few weeks ago. You should definitely double-check, though.

Hmm, that is new... it was evaluated as UL on my transcript (though that was a few months back). I just checked their website and it looks like they've adjusted other DSST evals down as well. However, Cybersecurity is still UL for now.

I just checked CLEP and it looks like they did the same thing there... they lowered Principles of Management and Principles of Marketing to LL. Not sure about the others.

Yes, they've aligned more closely with ACE now.  CLEP never had any UL courses, and luckily, the ones that TESU counted as UL don't matter, as they're in the core and not the AOS.

The Cybersecurity DSST is ACE-recommended to be UL, so they will most likely leave that one as is.
