TESU Dual CS/CIS Degree Help!
#1
Hello All,

First time caller long time listener Big Grin

Your Location: CA
Current Regional Accredited Credits: UC Davis Degree Economics (2018)
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None
Any certifications or military experience?: None
Budget: Unlimited
Timeline: Soonest

Hello i am interested in the CS/CIS dual degrees from TESU. I have a bachelors degree in economics from UC Davis so i believe that takes care of the electives and RA credits. From what I gather from all of your wonderful posts I essentially can take the majority of these classes on study.com transfer them in and then take two capstones and get the dual degrees.

Can anyone give an insight into my plan and let me know of any blind spots? Thank you so much.

Your general education and electives will be covered by your completed bachelor's degree.

You will need a minimum of 24 new credits, which will be fulfilled by the AOS requirements. These degree plans walk through the requirements - only 9 credits can overlap between the AOS for the two degrees:

FYI - If you meant to include a link or a file, nothing was included.

Gotcha that makes sense. Maybe i am bit out of the loop and its a maybe a dumb question but the post above me says 24 new credits. But when i look at the site it says:
BACS AOS
42 credits. At least 15 (not counting capstone) must be upper level. 18 UL total.

At least 24 of the credits must be after your original degree. Actual number will depend on what is required for the degrees at TESU.

Example - you might already have calculus from your prior degree.

In your shoes, I'd go ahead and apply to TESU and send in my transcripts. That will get your transfer credits evaluated and let you know exactly what you are missing to get the degrees. The application fee is only $50, and you're under no obligation to actually start courses. It also has the benefit of locking in your catalog.

As an applicant, they will evaluate up to 2 transcripts. If you have more than that, then you can become an enrolled student by registering for a $50 1cr TECEP test. You don't have to take it, and I recommend that you don't, as there is only one 1cr TECEP in the catalog, and you could conceivably use it again to extend enrollment if you're not ready to begin within the first year.

Hey Dave, I thought the catalog only locks in if you enroll?

To the best of my knowledge, applied status is sufficient to lock the catalog in. Now, you obviously need to become enrolled before your applicant status expires, or the lock won't mean much.

Once a year, in July. Policy changes can happen anytime. Some policy changes only apply to new students, or have grandfathering provions, or don't affect transfer credits already evaluated, so being enrolled can help with those situations, too.

In your case, considering the time of year, the advantage is more the opportunity to see how much of the AOS your current credits would fulfill. I would expect some of the business credits and math would be covered.
