TESU Per-source mistake
#11
alzee Wrote:I believe you, but I'd rather keep the SL courses on my ACE transcript and convince TESU to just amend their procedures. I know it's unlikely but I have nothing to lose by trying. It's nonsensical that they will accept however many SL credits off the SL transcript, but treat them differently if they're on an ACE transcript.

I get it - I would totally do that too! I agree, ACE is not a single source, but a bank of credits from (possibly) many sources.

Go for it, and keep us posted!

Just got a new reply. Now I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has actually gained an associates with > 45cr combined between ACE and NCCRS, or >90cr on a bachelors, as this is the reply I have received:

Quote:Thank you for your email. Unfortunately Patricia Certo is correct. The policy states that there is a 45 credit limit for both NCCRS and ACE combined for the Associates Degree. So even if you took the Straighterline courses out of the ACE they would be put in as NCCRS if they came in on a Straighterline transcript and therefore counted under the 45 credit limit. I do apologize for the inconvenience.
Have a great day!

Now they are saying that it's not just ACE, but ACE and NCCRS combined -- which causes even bigger problems.

Is this a new policy or do I need to take this to an even higher level or what?

Worst case.. middle finger to the associates and just soldier on to the bachelors with this in mind -- the rest of my credits are planned to be mostly CLEP, DSST, TECEP and PLA anyway.

Hi,

As you may know, after reading your original post, I contacted ACE, and in my reason to contact them - I stated that "due to TESU limitations of 45 credits, I am requesting a new transcript" ....
Anyway, I was able to swiftly change my transcript (my unfortunate timing - pay for another transcript, and the guy was most cordial when he offered to save my stuff- and put it back on my officlal transcript.)
So, in an hour, it was all done, and I saw/believe it was submitted in a way that TESU accepted, and all my classes are already back on my transcript for the next degree.
So, No fret.

I had some ALEKS and SL and ACE that I was able to request those transcripts for from ACE.
I only wish you well.
We can do this. Keep the faith.

Here is the actual wording on TESU's website:

The limit of ACE and National CCRS credits from a single source is 90 credits for a bachelor's degree and 45 credits for an associate degree.

This does NOT say that the limit of credits from ACE or NCCRS is 90/45, it says that the limit from any single source inside of ACE or NCCRS is 90/45. At least, that's how I read it. I would escalate.

That is my interpretation as well, and that of any reasonable person. If it were otherwise, the phrase "from a single source" simply wouldn't be there. "The limit of ACE ... credits is 90 credits for..." would be all that need be said, although they should point out that they are also treating them as combined; meaning 30 from ACE and 30 from NCCRS is 60, which is also over the limit of 45.

I've reopened the ticket with a similar response, and asked who I should appeal to next if he (Richard Strauss -- Senior Learner Services Representative) still disagrees.

Sometimes you just wanna grab someone by the lapels and shake them.. Wink

Victory! Big Grin

Quote:I apologize for the confusion surrounding the 45/90 ACE/NCCRS single source policy. You are correct in your interpretation of the policy. A single source is considered the institution where you completed the credit, not the reviewing institution, such as ACE or NCCRS.

We received an ACE transcript on 5/18/16 and it shows 15 courses (45 credits) completed through Straighterline. Then there are credits from Texas Engineering Extension Service, ALEKS, AICP and Kaplan Open University. We also receive a transcript directly from Straighterline that indicates 4 courses (12 credits) but those courses are also listed on your ACE transcript so nothing additional was added.

I have asked the Evaluator to review your degree program and include the credit that was excluded.

I am very sorry for all the confusion we have caused you. Please let me know if you have any addition questions.

Sincerely,

Mary Beth Lynch
